A few weeks ago I baked for the first time in many years - delicious parkins. Decided it's my new winter hobby. Cheese scones last week & coconut loaf cake today. They don't look great, but taste lovely. Got the flavours right. Now I need to work on the appearance.

Norwich's oldest secular buildings part 3. Augustine Steward House Tombland Alley built in 1530s & used by royal soldiers who put down the 1548 Kett Rebellion. At the other end of the alley is the C17 pink house & on the next street a beautiful brick & half timbered C17 house.

Norwich's oldest secular buildings part 2. C12 Music House - many uses over the years - most recently part of the much missed Wensum Lodge education centre. Dragon Hall - C15 merchant house, now the National Writing Centre where the social history group I volunteer with 1/2

Decided to photograph Norwich's oldest non-ecclesiastical buildings over the winter. First three: Pull's Ferry - C15 arch & C16 house. In C12 a canal ran from here to move stone for building of cathedral; Cow Tower - C14 artillery tower; C16 Paston House. Plus some early snowdrops.

Can't remember the last time I did any baking. Must be over 10 years ago so thought I'd start with something simple - parkins. Very tasty, but I think next time I'll use more treacle & less golden syrup as they're a bit too sweet.

Photo a day for October. Started in the Yorkshire Dales then on to bike racing at Oulton Park Cheshire in Storm Amy. A weekend in Heacham where my parents lived all their lives & more racing at Brands Hatch, Kent. Next time I go anywhere outside Norfolk will probably be next May.

Have enjoyed our short break in a 1960's holiday chalet in Heacham. Walked north along the flood bank today then on to Hunstanton cliffs & back along the prom to Heacham. The tide was just right to see knot, oystercatchers, curlew, turnstones & sanderlings feeding on the mudflats close to the beach.

Sunset from Heacham beach this evening. Lived in Heacham until I was 18 & my parents lived here all their lives. Love to come back for a weekend every now & then.

Going to miss our lovely cottage and Reeth. Spent nearly all day inside today as Storm Amy arrived at lunchtime. Hoping the wind eases tomorrow as we're heading west to Oulton Park.

Just a 5 mile walk today on Reeth Low Moor and back to Reeth by the Swale finishing with ice creams on the village green. We're staying in the white house in the centre of the last photo.

A photo a day for September. The month started off feeling like summer, but it's definitely autumn now. Went to racing at Donington Park, spent a couple of nights in the Peak District, enjoyed the Norwich Open Heritage Days & ended the month in the Yorkshire Dales.

A shorter walk today - only 7 miles - but far more hills. Along the river to Marrick Priory, up through Steps Woods then along Fremington Edge. It wasn't particularly warm, but thankfully wasn't as windy up on the edge as it usually is. Only saw 4 other walkers all day, but plenty of sheep.

A longer walk today. Across fields & along the bank of the Swale to Isles Bridge and back to Reeth along the other side of the river. 8 easy miles as no big hills to climb, but still lots of lovely views.

Great day in Swaledale. Sandra - a friend from York who I haven't seen for over 10 years - and her husband Darren joined us for a short walk from Reeth to Grinton stopping off at The Dales Bike Centre for delicious cakes on the way back. Somehow ended up buying a box of cakes to bring home 😁

Short walk at RSPB Strumpshaw. Ended up sheltering in visitor centre from big thunderstorm. I'm frightened of lightning. Everyone else was watching it through the windows. On way home the road under the railway bridge was flooded. Just made it through on the motorbike without getting feet wet.

Perfect day for an 8 mile walk in the Peak District. Sunny, but not too warm. Across fields to Grindleford and along Padley Gorge with its twisted oak trees then across the moors 1/2

First walk at the cemetery for a few weeks. Autumn has definitely arrived even though it's been a warm & sunny day. The ivy bees have arrived too. After such a sunny year shrubs & trees are covered in berries. Never seen berries on a laurel before.

A photo a day in August. Visited 6 nature reserves, went to bike racing at Thruxton Hampshire, Cadwell Lincs & Snetterton Norfolk, walked miles 'collecting' GoGoSafari sculptures & enjoyed the sunshine.

110/120 #GoGoSafari sculptures 'collected'. Unlikely to get any more as don't have time to visit 5 outside the city centre & 5 are around Norfolk. One of today's is in the cafe of St John the Baptist RC cathedral. I didn't realise there are lovely gardens behind the cathedral.

Took a detour on the way to physio this afternoon & found some more #GoGoSafari sculptures at Cinema City & the cathedral. Now 'collected' 107/120. Only 3 more city centre ones left to find.

Spent the afternoon at Fairhaven Gardens in the Norfolk Broads. Beautiful and peaceful. The last time we visited was in the 1990s! Won't leave it so long to go again.
