pretty fcked that Canadian racist care economy is largely built on Filipina labour - from domestic work to nursing - and that after the tragedy it's mostly Filipinas in healthcare and community networks doing carrying care work.

(Not a comment abt their immense care, but on our social structuring)

What is Lapu-Lapu Day? Filipinos shocked by festival tragedy in Vancouver
Thousands of Filipinos in Vancouver were celebrating Lapu-Lapu Day on Saturday, marking a defining moment in Philippine history, when tragedy struck - a vehicle drove into the crowd killing multiple people and injuring others.

Right wing politicians fully know that people will migrate, know that trans people will exist, know that sex work will happen, know that many people use drugs, know that the planet is burning..

Point of criminalization, dehumanization & denial is not actual beliefs - its cruelty to create precarity

Frontiers of border militarization are increasingly further away from imperial center - from El Salvador to Rwanda to Egypt to Poland - tho still dictated by imperial interests. Border outsourcing agreements are key to understanding geopolitical power & trade agreements & fascistic alliances today.

"One Thing I Can Afford" popped up on rotation and the viola outro is pulling on my heartstrings. Perfect for this lazy, sunny Saturday afternoon in Vancouver.

Reviewing the silly, slurry follow-up DMs I sent to beautiful randoms I met last night. I am officially banned from drinking craft beer.

I first learned how to 'Dougie' at the American hall in Kandahar Airfield. 15 years later, I am the old guy at the Y2K themed night in Toronto watching the youth cypher to it with such release.

Harana and mariachi are hybridized folk music forms that emerged during Spanish colonization. I've been loving the Philippine Embassy in Mexico's lecture series uncovering the exchanges and shared history between the two regions.

A visit is overdue. Anyone want to tag along with me in the fall?

Sitting down for a pozole and remembered that I lost my phone in 2020 and sadly, all my photos from my trip to CDMX that February.

Also, I filmed the visualizer for 'Notice Me' outside this Latin World.

What was going on in my head last night at the bar we shut down. Being visibly queer and trans at a straight bar with 99% bipoc folks gently swaying to old school, afrohouse, and dancehall felt way safer than a queer event shrouded by anxiety, vape clouds, and bad techno haha #CanCon

A thoughtful review of Macy Gray's "On How Life Is" (1999). True story: in sixth grade I brought this CD to the school dance. I was shamed by my teacher who read an album review out loud in class, naming the explicit content. That didn't stop me from slow-dancing to "I Try" with a cute boy 😉
For this week's Sunday Review, we revisited Macy Gray’s misunderstood 1999 debut and the unlikely story that shaped its wise songwriting and chameleonic sound
