Watching cremations is quite popular with locals, tourists and others 🤐. The platform across the river is expensive to rent for a cremation. Only the rich can afford it. And that's where viewers are found.

In Kathmandu people can cremate their dead at the Pashupatinath, an important religious centre. One can go there and see these cremations, and even photograph them.
