Furry Studies 2025 was an academic conference in the same way Room Party was a contemporary art show. Which is to say, we did it on our terms - silly but serious, personal and political, playful yet powerful. Feral.

I must say that I enjoyed the 3 session. My transformation was not set with a bodice-ripping hunt, helpless to escape, falling under a ball of claws and A photograph of two stacks of documents on a gallery shelf. For adults, the screen showed something 2 novelty of dressing up and dancing, for no-one in particular, feeling nothing in particular. After all, who has anything 3 teeth. Instead, it was a kind yet piercing gaze from a bathtub, seen after several pages of fantasy-scifi-adjacent canines 1 so starkly obvious that it seems contrived, in retrospect: 2 to hide when they don’t know what they’re hiding? Years after high school a self-addressed letter would arrive at my 3 posing in forests, laboratories and spaceships. Unlike every other goddamn mainstream depiction of gay men in the 1A plotted chart of one’s breath between two lines which you learned to stay within, helping affect a new way of 2 ancestral home, and I opened it while visiting from graduate school, where my claws were sprouting. It was a message. 3 1990s, these fluffy gentlemen looked at and embraced each other without equivocation for straight viewers. 1 speaking that would appear fluent. 2 The result of an assignment from an English teacher; written, addressed and sealed in class by my past self ten years 3 Beyond humanity laid a framework of infinite possibility. And then, his gaze turned my way. 1 Somewhere in the same room, a pamphlet proudly listed many very famous and successful people who had a stutter, 2 prior. My eyes were the only ones to see it. But I barely recognized the writer. 3 He looked at me, head cocked, sending a biting shock of sincerity that had evaded me until then. 1 but somehow, never stuttered in public. 2 When you wear a mask for too long, you get used to the narrow field of view. 3 Oh no! I like this! I like this very much! To the lower right of the preceding messages, which were surrounded by a thin grey line in the form of a box, reads the author’s signature and date: OUTSIDEWOLVES 2025.
