as a musician i don't believe we can reverse what streaming has done to music consumption or restore music's product value. the problem was always commodification. i use the word "consumption" intentionally bc i think music survives by being a participatory cultural activity, not a product

lets be clear.. hiphop and r&b are funk, and edm is disco. of course, both disco and funk are soul, and soul is rhythm & blues, which is naturally the blues but notably also rock n roll, which is punk, which is post-hardcore and thrash, which together are nu metal, which is funk

it's strange living in this moment with so much precedent, with the ability to point to history and say "look, fascism is back, it's happening just like it did before" which people in the 1930s couldn't do in the same way. and yet we still see regular ppl justifying/ignoring it like they did before

i love finding art online and sometimes i'll find an artist making impressive work but as i look further something feels off. there's no natural through-line or sense of inquiry. feels like trading cards or something. that's when i inevitably notice the link to a blockchain-based art marketplace

ime it severely depends on the tone of your post. i've had a few innocent "here's a silly thing i made" or "i love this thing" ones that were like 90+% positive. but one time it was some flippant contrarian music take and it was the WORST, i had to delete it bc i felt ashamed at what i had created
