In the year ahead, let’s travel thoughtfully, recreate responsibly, and protect the lands and waters we love so they remain wild for generations to come.

Cheers to a year of learning, stewardship, and leaving no trace. 🌲

As the year ends, one thing is clear: when we learn together, we protect together. In 2026, we’ll be expanding our research, training more stewards, and reaching more communities and we want you with us. Let’s make stewardship the brightest part of the new year.
December 30, 2025 at 7:22 PM
This year, millions of people learned how to protect nature through science-based Leave No Trace education. That’s stewardship in action and you made it possible. Thank you.

Let’s carry this momentum into 2026 and join our community zurl.co/cn31z

Beyond the social impact, how does this trash affect the ecosystem? Plastic bottles break into micro plastics and effect our water, vegetation, wildlife and much more. A single bottle can affect far more than the scenery. It alters the ecology for decades.

Holiday spirit can be simple:
❄️ Pick up stray litter on a winter walk
❄️ Stay on trail to protect fragile frozen soil
❄️ Respect wildlife during their hardest season
Our research shows these small choices make a measurable difference in winter ecosystems.
Give a little cheer to the outdoors today. 💚

Holiday cheer isn’t just something we share with people — it’s something we can share with the outdoors, too.

Whether you’re exploring snowy trails, wandering a quiet forest, or simply stepping outside to breathe, the best gift we can give nature is care grounded in science.

Durable surfaces can withstand foot traffic, vehicles, and camping. Keeping our footsteps, driving, and campsites on durable surfaces protects fragile ecosystems, prevents erosion, and preserves habitats for plants and wildlife.

Durable surfaces are resilient and resistant, which is why they matter. Staying on designated trails keeps our impact where the land can handle it and protects the surrounding habitat.

Riparian zones are extremely sensitive. Their loose soils and root networks hold stream banks together and filter sediment and nutrients, so even small disturbances can increase erosion, and reduce water quality.

In alpine environments, the ground is more sensitive & recovery can take decades. Boardwalks help protect delicate areas while also creating safe, accessible routes for everyone & preserves the habitat. Staying on the trail protects sensitive areas.

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for you — the hikers, campers, families, and educators who practice Leave No Trace every day. Your actions protect trails, wildlife, and future adventures.

Let’s all continue to care for the places that care for us.

A single step on a non-durable surface triggers a surprising chain of ecological effects. Once vegetation is stressed, the protective cover disappears. Bare soil becomes vulnerable to wind & water erosion, & increased siltation.

Every campsite tells a story—make yours a good one.

We teamed up with @Teva to share 3 simple ways to camp responsibly:
1️⃣ Camp on durable ground
2️⃣ Pack out all trash
3️⃣ Keep fires small or use a stove

Together, we can protect Playground Earth.
