Amateur genetic genealogist, loves helping people find their roots in the UK (just ask!). Retired educational-book editor.
Why aren't all these shopping algorithms clever enough to know that I've bought the thing already and to stop trying to get me to buy it again!

Very successful last few days - have found two unknown fathers and one unknown grandfather for two very happy searchers. So satisfying.

@gregjenner.bsky.social We've just visited the castle at Guedelon that I found out about from one of your posts. It's superb! Anyone with a scintilla of interest in the medieval period should visit. Thanks for mentioning it!

Let’s clear up some facts. There is no such thing as an “illegal immigrant”. The UK DOES NOT grant asylum visas overseas, except for very limited schemes (except large schemes for Ukraine and Hong Kong).Refugees can only claim for asylum when in the UK. So their fate can only be decided, once here.

Another successful search completed ending a 75 year search for a father! I have three more ongoing cases which are a bit more tricky but looking forward to the challenge 😁

Father successfully identified for my latest searcher. MyHeritage actually came up with some vital matches, for once! Doesn't often happen 🙂

First DNA search success of the year. A long and complicated search involving breaking down conundrums of changed names and hidden relationships, but a candidate for paternity finally slotted into place. Very satisfying and I'm really happy to have helped someone find some peace.

Had a lovely message the other day from a chap whose father I found a while back via DNA. He sent me a photo of him with his new-found half-brothers. So happy for him to have been accepted into the family. Love happy endings 😊
