It can be a challenge to take Freud at his word— he was not merely providing metaphorical language for the psychoanalytic endeavor. His most audacious contributions were intended to represent psychological phenomena as much as they were meant to describe actual physical realities of everyday life.

A colleague said recently, “Do we love psychoanalysis enough to invite people in?”

“The solution to exclusion can only be to call for inclusion, in this case inclusion in knowledge.”

When you’re a Christian and also a psychoanalytic therapist, reading Philippians may actually mean you’ve started making your way through Adam Phillips’ essays.

Had an interesting conversation with colleagues about “hope” in regard to psychoanalysis/psychotherapy. Much to ponder.

An unsolicited supervisory tone is generally unwelcome in collegial conversations. If you’re not on the supervisory clock, get off the soapbox.
In dialogue with our colleagues, discussions best held on level ground, we retreat too readily to the sense of superiority that can attach itself to an interpretive position…It is evident in collegial consultations when a supervisory tone replaces mutual respect.
