Assistant Prof of History at University of Montevallo, focusing on race relations and southern history in the 19th and 20th centuries. WFU 🎩 UGA 🐾
As we continue using our local history and sites to illustrate the historical themes we’re studying, my class met today at King House and cemetery right on our own campus. Great discussions of wealth, slavery, business and financial dealings in early and antebellum Alabama.

Today my students & I went into the community to learn from historic sites. It was amazing to tour a house that began as an 1820s two room dogtrot then view an 1820s “big house” & adjacent 1830s church cemetery. Great discussions of early Alabama settlement, slavery, Native American history & more.

History friends, I'm looking for a good article for my upper level class on Sally Hemings, especially one that might touch on race and gender in the early US. Any ideas? Thanks!!

I was so honored that WTVY in Dothan chose to feature the work my students and I did to research and honor lynching victims for their Black History Month coverage! In addition to this segment, you can learn more at our website, legacyoflynching.com.

Thrilled to share I've accepted a position at the University of Montevallo as a TT Asst Prof of History! Troy has given me amazing opportunities & I’ll miss my friends, colleagues, & students, but I’m excited for the next stage, moving to Birmingham near my family, & getting started at UM!

Super excited b/c my sister put "books featuring diversity" on my 3yo nephew's Xmas list, and this is right up my alley! Before I go too wild (too late!) does anyone have any favorites I need to be sure to include?!
