another helpful thing is always specifying what bothers you in that moment. no ''this doesn't look right'' bc that locks the negative feeling in. specify the problem and each next stroke will be a probe towards a solution without you being locked into early judgement

i never verbalise my frustration when i make art, not even in my thoughts. i just try stuff until it looks right. maybe this can help people feel less paralysed? if you can turn the inner monologue off, turn it off and only use your immediate perception

For some pieces endless space around feels correct but for the most that I do, vertical borders of particular thickness add an extra "lock" on the composition

I noticed perception differs when the borders are "endless" and when you add vertical ones. Full framing feels suffocating for most art I do and borderless can feel "too free" for the eye, lessening focus
