We explored another poster direction. Interesting 🤪, but not quite inviting enough for the film we’re making. That’s part of the process

Livicated is about transmission, memory, and intimacy. The poster has to welcome people in, not stand in the way.
More soon

This isn’t the poster for our documentary Livicated. We intentionally tried this angle, and while it has strong elements, it doesn’t fully reflect the film's tone yet. We’re glad we tested it; now let’s move on to the next angle... #bobmarley

Unreleased Bob Marley tapes from Roger Steffens’ Reggae Archives, original cassettes, handwritten notes, and strict “no copies” markings.
More than recordings, these are working documents capturing moments of process, trust, and living history.
Huge thanks to John Dubois for the photos. #bobmarley

Steel Pulse autographed album cover. A special section of the archives is livicated to Steel Pulse, as Roger has a great admiration for them. In Roger’s case, an autograph is never just a signature. Each signed album represents hours of conversation, shared reasoning, verbal history, and anecdotes

From Rasrojah @ Grammy's For The Fela Kuti Lifetime Achievement Award

I am with his archivist, daughter, and in the center, Femi Kuti. I was able to donate 56 years of Fela clippings and memorabilia to the Kuti Museum in Lagos.

That encounter soon found expression in Punky Reggae Party, a song that openly referenced the punk scene and captured a rare moment when reggae and punk met not as trends but as parallel expressions of resistance in a city marked by social tension.

Bob Marley was not just observing the punk movement from a distance; he stepped directly into it. While in London in the late 1970s, Marley saw The Clash live, recognizing in their music the same urgency, defiance, and political charge that fueled reggae.

Yesterday, I found this newspaper clip at Roger Steffens' Reggae Archives
Marley's core point was simple: punk and Rastafari were not the same thing, but they shared a rejection of oppressive systems, racism, and authority, what Marley called “Babylon.”

We had a photo session with Roger Steffens today to create the poster.

An intimate shoot inside the archives, surrounded by decades of history, stories, and music. Not everyone is visible in the photos, but it was very much a collective moment.

More to come.

This photo shows pins from around the world, some of them hand-painted, collected, and preserved by Roger Steffens over the course of decades. Each one marks a place, a moment, a listener, proof of how far the music traveled and how deeply it landed.
It represents only about 5% of Roger's collection

Hiding inside Roger’s Reggae Archives, Judgement In A Babylon / One Drop (c. 1980) is a 12-inch single by Lee “Scratch” Perry, bearing Perry’s own hand-drawn and written interventions on the sleeve, his personal touch added directly onto Roger’s copy.

This clip offers a glimpse into the film’s structure, spanning over four decades of Roger Steffens’ reggae archives & our own footage. Please note: the lower resolution is intentional at this stage, as the film has not yet been registered with the copyright office.

Ephemeral paper. Permanent history.
An original street poster from the Roger Reggae Archives.

This is how reggae history actually lived, stapled to walls, passed hand to hand, made to support musicians and culture in real time.

What makes this moment even more special: Nina Simone had written a song in homage to Bob Marley, but not in the way anyone expected. I won’t reveal the title here, u will be able to hear it in the coming months on KCRW Vintage 24, as they reissue the 350 hours of Roger’s REGGAE BEAT radio show

Here’s a rare moment captured at KCRW 89.9 FM studios in Santa Monica, CA.

Roger Steffens is holding unreleased interview tapes recorded with Bunny Wailer for an autobiography that was never published. Not because of conflict, but because Bunny chose not to fix his life and philosophy permanently in print.

In the early 80s, Roger Steffens helped introduce Fela Kuti to the U.S. Through radio, writing & rare access, he documented a revolutionary who fought corruption & military brutality, proving Afrobeat wasn’t only entertainment. "Music is a weapon!" #livicated #movie #rogersteffens #lAfroBeat #love

This poster captures a moment when reggae culture traveled hand-to-hand, long before social media. Designed by Robert Steinhilber, reflects the serious, roots-driven spirit of The Gladiators’ music.

Once that’s in place, we’ll be able to plan the release properly. If all goes well, release Spring 2026.
