A Little Free Cinema in East Van, playing local short films and out-of-context clips from movies that we love.

This week, we're featuring some selected works from Vancouver's own Small File Media Festival, (smallfile.ca)

Specially selected by Joey Malbon, Production Manager and Founding Member of the festival, these works were chosen to have a dialogue with our mini theatre, and the results are sublime.

It's a sunny Sunday, and we're playing a whole bunch of micro-short films by local artists from Titmouse animation, as part of their 5-Second Day showcase! (the films are AT LEAST 5 seconds long, and are all personal projects of the artists) Family friendly before 9 pm, spicier stuff added at night.

Our theme this week is Gothic Romance, and this new post-watershed timeslot lets us stretch our legs into places best explored after dark!

I went to a DTES town hall last night and I have been deeply touched by the depth of that community. They really do watch out for and care for each other.

Vancouver has pockets of communities all over the city. The DTES is one worth protecting and fighting for. They need housing, not dispersion.

Happy Lunar New Year! Thanks to our friends at @vanhack.bsky.social for their help and guidance in putting this show together.

We dedicate this lion dance from Dreadnaught to anyone who looked at the Milk Crate Challenge and thought "Looks like fun!"

I realized that we buried the lede with the cartoons this week... The Marx Brothers' first sound film, Cocoanuts, is now in the public domain, and bits of it are playing at the Vodville.

It warmed my little shit disturber heart to see teenage boys in Andrew Tate's target demographic refusing to be torn away from the Good Neighbours show.

Now till Wednesday, we're showing some old films that are perennially relevant.

None of this is new. At the end of the day, there are a limited number of ways to turn neighbour against neighbor. There are, however, infinite ways to love and connect with one another.

We love you, take care.

Now Playing at the East Van Vodville Cinema: some film moments that feel especially relevant right now.

It's an honour to get to show @jackiedives.bsky.social 's work, and shows like this make me feel like the Vodville is truly fulfilling its purpose to authentically connect and delight real humans. Playing through Satudray, January 18, 2024.

Playing now through Saturday, Jan 18, four absolutely gorgeous short films by @jackiedivesphoto.

Jackie, thank you so much for being out first solo show artist, for your patience and your trust as we figure out this weird little venue, and for producing such gorgeous, eloquent, insightful work. 💖
