Drugs and alcohol will always sever my connection to the Divine. And that knowing—that lived, sacred truth—keeps me sober.

People think alcoholic insanity refers to the chaos we cause while drunk—reckless, shameful behavior. But no.

It’s picking up a drink after a period of sobriety.

We can list reasons, rationalizations, and excuses—but the truth is, we don’t know why we picked up that first drink.

The Big Book calls our logic the philosophy of a man who, having a headache, beats himself with a hammer to forget the pain.

Delusion, illusion, or obsession, the problem is in our minds. Alcoholism is a mental illness—not just stinking thinking, not just the voices—but the terrifying inability to remember our suffering or stop ourselves from repeating it.

Alcoholics get all tangled up over inviting God in when, really, we’re just getting fear out.

Our brokenness, our scars, our past experiences, they don't make us any less worthy. They make us who we are.

Recovery love sees us at our worst and remembers what it was like to be there, too.

It comes through strangers who know us better than we know ourselves—strangers who see through our lies, hear the words we can’t say, and understand our pain because it was theirs.

The idea of life without alcohol was terrifying.

If alcohol were responsible for every aspect of me—my thoughts, feelings, beliefs, behavior, and character—who would I be without it?

One is one too many; one more is never enough.

1980 – the party is on!
1987 – 1st AA meeting
1992 - lost everything
1993 – first rehab
1994 - 2nd rehab and so on...
2001 - lost everything again
2004 – last rehab (DOS 10/08/04)

Recovery is about integrating our past—not erasing it—and embracing every part of ourselves.

It’s knowing our darkest secrets can become our greatest assets and that sharing them offers hope to others.

Losing the #power of #choice over a drug doesn’t just mean one can’t stop using it — it often means one can’t consistently make sound or healthy decisions in any domain of life.

#Recovery isn’t just about quitting the substance — it’s about regaining the #freedom to choose again.

People assume alcoholics drink to cope with emotional problems and become addicted, but the opposite is true. It starts with physiology, not psychology.

An abnormal physiological reaction to alcohol leads to increasing psychological problems.

We don’t understand why we can’t stop, why we’re sacrificing all the things that matter most, and this leads to ever-increasing emotional turmoil.

But the effect is not the cause.

We look inward to heal, yet healing shows itself in how we turn outward, shifting our focus from self to service, from image to humility, from resistance to surrender.

Forgive yourself! You were sick. Thinking you're so much worse than everyone else is a form of arrogance. Let yourself off the hook. You're here now, no better, no worse than any of us. We love you!
