Nuclear Waste Management Organization is seeking input on a proposed siting approach for Canada’s 2nd deep geological repository. It will contain intermediate- & non-fuel high-level radioactive waste & maybe used fuel from new nuclear projects.

Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation & Ignace are on the world stage.

DG Grossi of @iaeaorg.bsky.social called Canada's leadership on consent-based siting of a deep repository for used nuclear fuel a “model of responsible, community-driven progress.”

Sweden has started construction on its deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel!⚛️🙌

Like similar projects in other countries (including Canada, where I live), it will ensure future generations don't have the burden of managing waste we created.

Nuclear waste travels in durable casks that are built to handle just about anything. These things get put through wild tests - they can take a direct hit from a speeding train and survive being dropped onto spikes from 30 feet up all without breaking.

Earlier today the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's President and CEO announced the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation-Ignace area as the future site for Canada’s deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.

Many countries are advancing plans for deep geological repositories for used #nuclear fuel. In Japan a major step was completed last week, opening the door to the next phase of study at potential host sites.
