Writer. Storyteller. Hungry Ghost.
Finished my stint at my local public high school where I coached seniors writing college admission essays.

I’ll miss them and their kindergarten backpacks!

These students want to make a difference. They want to advocate, they want to innovate. They want to help and to heal.

Get ready, world!

Growing up as an immigrant, I felt like an outsider in the U.S. In Taiwan, I felt like a foreigner too. I yearned to belong somewhere.

In my grandparents’ home, portraits of my ancestors hang near the home shrine. There’s so much family history I don't know.

My son, a high school junior, finished reading Crying in H Mart. Inspired, he told me his memoir will be entitled My Incessant Battle With My Mom

Slipped on ice, fell backward and hit my head. No concussion though, I’m pretty sure. I know what day it is, the day of the week and sadly, who the president is.

I’m fine. I think? I don’t know.

Happy Lunar New Year!

This year has started off with turmoil and I haven’t felt 100% joyful during what is supposed to be a celebratory time. I’m hoping the Year of the Snake will let us shed cruelty and divisiveness, ushering in positivity, peace and prosperity for all.

My sister in law taught me needle felting and I made this little dumpling as my first project. Somehow, stabbing something over and over and coming out of it with a tiny piece of art feels like exactly what I need right now.

Honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering with my fave 11th graders for City Year Cleveland’s MLK Day of Service.

We discussed King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail and asked ourselves, will we be extremists for hate or for love?
