Jumped into Guild Wars 2 again after a three year break. Kinda comforting to see that the vanilla boss train is still alive and well. Tempted to pick up the new expansion but I'm still playing WoW, which also has a new expansion... Can't really play both can you?

Anyway I think my main take aways from my Hamburg jaunt are:
I'm somewhat passable until I open my mouth. I don't see it but that's also normal to think.
Doing it is life on hard mode, and I'm not really sure if it's worth it.
Certainly not now in the Uk.

The German commitment to the arts like the 99% attendance at the Elbphilharmonie for a 1.5hrs Messiean piece is very impressive. Altho I look around and do wonder how many are aware of what they're about to hear. Do some just go every Friday regardless? Is it social and they just endure the music?

Kinda forgot how drably Germans generally dress. Made it harder to blend in when I'm not doing the full massive black parka jacket, jeans and sweatshirt combo.

Turns out id you have no voice game, then you just have no voice game. So in order to communicate you just have to let it go, even tho it feels dysphoric. Added fun comes from muddling along in a sort of denglish.

Hamburg day 2 random thoughts. Lübeck is probably not worth the look tbh. There's a slightly wonky tower, some other architecture,but in between that it's just town. Found some Labskaus for lunch tho. Kind of weird balance of things with a load of beetroot left to finish off - needs more eggs 🥚🥚

Blake next to Gillray next to Goya. A kind of anti-curation that works just as well. The view of the Speicherstadt is now not great - they're all basically riverside flats now, which I suppose makes sense. Low sun makes it hard to take any good pictures, or I just suck at photos.

The Kunsthalle had a surprising amount of impressionist works. I'm not sure Kaspar David Friedrich's pieces were any more impressive or revelatory in person. You just sort of stumble upon his most famous painting. Oh there it is. Go for the Friedrichs, stay for the random circle of drawings.

I did once get a place through the ballot back in about 2003, but i was in no way ready for it. I've been applying most years since then, but ultimately if you want a place on the start line (and you aren't Good for Age, or a celeb) you have to pay the charity tax.
