A lot of people are making claims about the sites/pages mentioned in ChatGPT without noting that OpenAI has deals with many of the cited publishers.

Always worth asking if the cited publisher is owned by one of the media companies partnering with OpenAI.

ChatGPT referral traffic was down 3.8% in July. Is the bubble about to pop?

After a wave of graphs (including ours) predicting growth that would intersect Google’s in '27-28, metrics went negative.

On the other side of the coin, Google traffic was up 15.9% across 193 sites.

Last week in AI search: GPT-5 leans on external sources, Perplexity (<1% share) crawls forbidden sites, AI Overviews UK hit 10% then 6%. If 70–80% of AI visibility is still SEO basics + a few AI tweaks, not sure how all this is practical for someone driving b2b growth, though.

New research via @joshbly.bsky.social shows - while top result gets 27.6% of clicks, ChatGPT cites it in only 10.1% of answers.

That’s a 3x drop in attention. This changes SEO:

– Page 1 is the new position 1
– Rank 8 URLs can earn AI citations
– Optimizing for LLMs ≠ optimizing for clicks

PR is back, dressed as "citations."
Bing is back, dressed as ChatGPT Search.
Content marketing is back, dressed as "AI training data."

What looked like a clean break from the past is, in fact, a remix.
