Finally decided on which events to attend at World Fantasy Con in Brighton this week, but with much dithering and gnashing of teeth.

Anyway, very excited to see old friends and the great and the good of the horror publishing, editing and writing world from Thursday onwards.

Need to get my act together as a writer as I've just booked my ticket for World Fantasy Con 2025 in Brighton.

Will be great to meet up with writers, old friends, publishers and artists in the horror realm. Who's going? Looking forward to the readings, panels and of course the awards too. Exciting!

Feeling the strain of imposter syndrome, I decided to update my publishing history.

I'd forgotten how many horror stories of mine have been out there since 2009, and even a couple of love stories.

Definitely enough to go into Cabaret of Dread Vol II and about time I got the novels submitted too.

I'm English but my grandfather was Canadian and his great-grandparents were from Vermont. I have always loved this and have never been more proud of my connections than I am today. Needless to say, I wholeheartedly support and stand with brave, strong Ukraine.

Spent hours clearing out an old chest of drawers and found three thick A4 notebooks from 2005, with a hand-written novel I'd completely forgotten about.
It's not bad, much to my surprise so am adding it to the growing pile of rewrites. This decluttering is good for the soul!

We’re seeking submissions that explore the darker forces & forms of life lurking in urban environments, capturing the gritty details—the sights, sounds, and smells—that define a city and make it uniquely alive. In fact, the title of the story will be the name of your city.

Oh this is relatable.
'The God of Insomnia (with bleeding eyes and bat wings and scales of tears)' by Cat Johnston reminds us of the importance of a good night's sleep and struggle many face when deprived of it.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

The 'thing' puts all US government diversity staff on paid leave, starting immediately.

More cruel, vile actions against the American people he professes to lurve.

Deep, dark and dread-ful first draft done for a new short story submission.

Then there's the original 1990s folk horror novel to rewrite, followed by the whole 'getting my act together' on re-arranging timelines for the current (nine years' and ongoing) novel.

Am writing. Am happy.

Winter in the City - launching 10 Dec from Ruardan Books. My story 'London' follows synaesthetic Zillah as she flits between her native New York and Victorian London. Wearing the tatters of an old, gold corset, Zillah trips across the bloody streets of different cities, with death at her heels.
