The Moon hung unusually low in the sky that night. It was heavy and golden, almost like a midnight sun. The figure of a lone traveler strode, he marched through the woods with an almost fervent purpose. He was making his way through the mist illuminated forest. The moon was like a giant lamp, very circular and dominate. It was if someone had hung up a floodlight in the middle of the sky. The pursuer stopped for a moment, cursing himself, heavy puffs of breath clouding up in the chill air. He knew he could not afford the luxury of resting for he was trying to track down a dangerous being. His quarry was a creature that was never resting, never dying. It did not know sleep or mercy. He knew if he showed weakness now, to himself, even for just a moment. He worried he would show weakness in a more crucial setting or at the wrong time. But he then let out a small chuckle and grinned, it was a charming and sharp but silver smile. He was worried about nothing, he assured himself. He knew he could go on for days without stopping and nights without rest. If he wanted to. That was what he was trained for after all. His focus was razor sharp, his mind not deviating from the reason why he was here. He amused himself because he knew his own limitations. That was what separated him, what made him different from all the monsters he hunted over the years. He knew when to stop. Monsters did not. An argument could made that, the human monster itself did not know when to stop, did not know when enough was enough. But he was no philosopher. He was not human either. His sleek black fur glinted faintly in the moonlight. The silhouette of the hunters figure that cut against the sky sported the features of a rather large smooth tail, with stripes running up the surface. Two ears twitched constantly taking in his surroundings. He did not care if he was called a beast. He knew his mission was to rid the world of monsters and prove, more to himself than anyone else really, that he was not a monster. It was what he held most close to him. The reason for stopping was his thirst. He drank water, which, and it was not lost on him. The water was life from the earth, willingly given. The creature he was after drank blood, the life from the living, stolen. His long coat billowed in the wind as he stopped to indulge in his canteen, he relished it. The water running down the sides of his face and returning to the earth from once it came. The air was thick with the scent of damp. It was almost a beautiful accompaniment to the silvery glow that permeated through the dense forest. The only thing he was oblivious to was the beauty of the surrounding countryside. All he saw was the twisted trees and creeping and circling shadows. He crunched his boots over the fallen twigs and leaves as his waistcoat clad figure continued to cut through the forest. A striking figure against the backdrop of the night sky. As he pressed on, hand resting a flintlock revolver, the other clutching a rather peculiar piece of parchment. It was for all the world, rather peculiar because of the contents. He had received the letter a few weeks ago. "Dearest hunter". It started. The whole thing was written in an elegant but dignified scrawl. It cryptically swirled and danced across the parchment like smoke. "I do hope you are enjoying the little cat and mouse game, but tell me, do you truly think believe you can catch me? You couldn't back in Tullen Square or before that in Joanstown. But what else would you do? What would you do without me? Give up? Your still just chasing shadows. You know you wanted me the moment you laid your eyes on me in the ballroom. You think you can resist me? Kill me? Save my soul?. Come to Talayia castle. Anytime darling. Open invitation." Those words kept circling in his head over and over again like white hot fury.
