Writer, artist, business owner, animal lover, doer.
At the prompting of some of my writer friends I’ve started a series of portraits of the main characters of my book.
This is Cain and I can’t really say much more about him without giving spoilers #sorrynotsorry

The Flint Hills are stunning in spring when the fields are being burned. An eclectic patchwork of browns, yellows, bright green where the earth has been renewed, and the blue of the sky.

This may be the most beautiful sign I have seen at one of these (even though the subject matter is so ugly). The artist who painted it said she started it feeling angry and it was therapeutic. Especially love the bling. #HandsOffLA

That one is great! Here's another artistic one from Longmont, CO that I came across today on my feed. Again, ugly subject matter, but great talent in drawing it.

A lot of creative folks are demoralized right now. Hell, I'm one of them. Maybe some of them are helping you through this rough time. If so, do me a solid:

Share their stuff. Drop them a kind word. Tip their Ko-fis, or join their Patreons. It seems like nothing, but it's everything right now. 🤘

Today I saw these beauties nodding their heads in the breeze. It’s a bit like finding buried treasurer, finding new flowers in the garden. I will keep working and hopefully the garden will keep revealing her hidden treasurers to me.

This is my very first oil painting I ever made. The writing prompt for the day is based on the blocky and visible brushed strokes and the imperfectly defined flowers. Write a piece about finding beauty in imperfection.

Writing prompt: who might give a gift of a bouquet of lilies and orchids? Who might the recipient be? Write a short scene about the exchange focusing on the emotions and unspoken words.

Writing prompt: imagine the ink strokes as a force that have been held back but finally released. What was holding that force back? What released the force? What happens now that it’s free?

Writing prompt: Explore the contrast between the delicate crane and the sturdy bamboo in a poem focusing on the emotions that these visual elements evoke. If you’d like to go deeper you can explore the cultural significance of bamboo and the red crowned crane in Chinese culture.

Growing up we never had much art or pictures of any kind on the walls. Later my parents hung the one piece I did in college that I disliked the most on their mantle.
This art wall, is chaotic, busy, and so therapeutic. It brings me so much joy to finally be able to see my work up on my walls.

Writing prompt: you see this crow, it has a special ability, what can it do? How does it use its ability? What are the consequences?

So… I finished the first round of edits on my manuscript this weekend and sent it off to my beta readers (dev editors) to get their feedback for the next round of edits. I’m incredibly nervous and excited for this massive leap forward.

Like most writers my earliest inspiration came from poetry and classic literature. Who is your favorite author?

Nemophilist: one with a love or fondness of the woods, a haunter of forests, or one who visits them often.

I am often inspired by the natural world. What inspires you?
