Just reuse your top 10 banger tweets—recycling is encouraged! This way, people will know you aren’t a bot, will see what you are about, and might follow back. Turn off NSFW filters in Settings > Moderation > Enable Adult Contentand at the bottom on Settings > Moderation > Bluesky Mod Service Find your friends from the hellsite using Sky-Follower-Bridge.devNot perfect, but it will find the majority of the people you were following.Beware of fake tools that ask for money! Follow a few feeds related to your interests. In bsky you choose what kind of content you want to see. You can pin feeds (into tabs) to the top of your timeline, and you always have access to the Following feed which shows nothing but who you choose to follow. Block often. Don’t interact with trolls. Don’t quote dunk, comment, nothing. Let them rot in silence, take away their oxygen and they’ll asphixiate. This is the Bsky way. Turn off language filters in Settings > Languages > Content Languages Or you won’t see posts from anyone in Japan, Germany, etc, in your feeds, even if they only post a cool image with no text. Weird, but trust me on this one. Uncheck all to see all posts. Fuck content scrapers. Do not let that trash overwhelm this site, do not share their stolen content. You can block them all with two clicks by going to joabaldwin.com/scrapers and on the top-right clicking on Subscribe > Block Accounts (I know, “Subscribe” is an odd thing to name it, but that’s how block lists work). Use alt text to make images accessible. Helps for translations, readability, findability, and users with slow internet. Turn on Settings > Accessibility > Require alt text before posting It takes time to rebuild, but the best time to do it is right now. Use your last tweets to tell everyone to move, then stop posting. Twitter is a Nazi/AI/bot/crypto cesspit.

Beyond the politics of it — I can’t imagine that for the majority of artists there’s any benefit to being on that site. The algo kills outside links, you have to pay to reach your followers, it suppresses whatever it sees fit, and now it’ll eat up your artwork…??

Like I'm pretty sure that if you've spent time on Tumblr back when the Marvel movies were really popular you've read something about Loki giving birth to Sleipnir, but there's actually a second story in Norse mythology where Loki eats the burned heart of a woman and gives birth to the forebearer of all troll women! Then the Greeks have the story of Zeus eating his then wife Metis who was pregnant with their child Athena, and thus "birthing" Athena from his forehead! Although it's entirely possible that Zeus would have given birth to Athena normally because Athena was the goddess of Wisdom, and the Greeks of the time believed that your thoughts and knowledge came from your torso, not your head. And then you have the mythical battle between Set and Horus in Egyptian lore over who would be the king of the gods, which has a whole bunch of conflicts going on but at one point Horus and his mother Isis trick Set into Horus' seed and he becomes pregnant from it! Depending on the retelling he either gives birth of a golden disk representing knowledge, or he gives birth to Thoth the god of wisdom. Man, if I had a nickel for every time a god ate someone and got pregnant from it, I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened thrice, right?
