Just one week to go.

Are there any early guesses for who kicks off the countdown?

Looks like pick 8 will be on the table for Essendon #AFLW in this trade deal, but I get the sense that Richmond will be keen to atone for their loss of Eilish Sheerin by playing hard ball...

Feels like a lot still to play out

Big #AFLW news from Riley Beveridge - Breed to Pies would be a serious coup, and if Essendon were able to secure Yassir for Paige Scott, it might help soothe the pain of losing a former top 10 pick.

Tayla Harris feels like a last second deadline deal at best...

Had this post 'break containment' (ty @thebackpocketau.bsky.social for the phrase)

1. It's funny how often people tell themselves, saying I've called them racists/homophobes
2. Alarming how much less vitriol there is in the comments vs @eloiseg31.bsky.social's post about the A Leagues/Trump Gif...

9th Melbourne
FA: Key forward. If Gall/Harris leave, replacements will be vital, both to draw attention away from Zanker, and to allow a better split between fwd and mid for Hore.
Draft: Wing/hb Chaplin is more lockdown than distributor, Goldrick is 34, and McNamara needs a partner in crime.

#AFLW
10th Geelong
FA: Ruck. Darby, Featherstone & Bragg aren’t a finals contending ruck trio. Get some experience (Sarah Lakay) asap.
Draft: MegMac is in her career twilight, and ARK is returning to Ireland, so defender depth is key. Geelong allowed the 4th highest rate of marks per i50 in s9.

#AFLW
11th St Kilda
FA: Small/Mid FWD. No team averaged fewer tackles i50 & Jesse Wardlaw had the league’s 2nd highest score involvement %. The return of Patrikios pushes Guttridge back i50, but I’d still want more.
Draft: Mids with high upside and some forward craft, Choppy ain’t around forever.

12th WBD
FA: Taller FWDs. The Dogs were 17th for marks i50 + Dogs mids often forced to dump kick inside because they lacked experienced targets + good forward structure
Draft: Whatever they feel like, this is the youngest roster in the AFLW, and have possible future openings on every line.

Jumping on this post as the gutter journos haven't moved over here yet (sorry Sean), to share this graphic about how silly this is.

If it was a clear majority of fans, the game wouldn't be consistently growing year-on-year.

100 replies on this on “Twitter”

All bar 3 are intended as attacks.

I’ve had to hide multiple comments calling me a b*tch, D*ddy supporter, d*ke, f*ggot, p*ssy….

Although, the contradiction of comments telling me to “cry more” & those asking why I’m still crying is quite funny.
Said this on that other app and you can imagine what all 22 of those replies were 🙃

13th WCE
FA: Ruck/Forward. This is cheating, because WCE need both forward targets and to make a choice on their ruck future, with Lyons out, and Wakfer and Lakay in and out of favour.
Draft: A key position utility or midfield project will bolster their list long term.

14th Carlton
FA: Key Forward. The tall fwd mix of Austin & the Moodys didn’t work for the Blues, finishing bottom 3 in marks i50 and Mi50 rate.
Draft: Sophie McKay has the speed/physicality mix that will bolster the Blues long term, and can arrives as a father/daughter selection

15th Sydney
FA: Tall defender. Could easily go with another mid, but I’d say that a taller lockdown defender is more necessary, as Brenna Tarrant often has to battle the true giants at only 174cm
Draft: If Montane Ham is a forward long-term, then a midfielder w/ size (Rasheed & O’Hehir)

16th GWS Giants
FA: Ruck/Forward. Tarni Evans is a top tier rebounding defender cast as an effective forward to cover for poor forward depth. Zarlie sits deep in the goal square. O’Dowd needs more time to hone her craft.
Draft: Take the speed of Zippy Fish or the mid/forward dynamo Rasheed.

17th Gold Coast Suns
FA – Defenders/pressure generators. No team allowed more shots at goal than GCS and ranked 15th for intercept differential and 16th for turnover differential.
Draft – Take Havana Harris (but they do need to decide on what to do with Bella/Davies)

18th Collingwood
Free Agency: Forwards! Few teams are in more desperate need of forward excellence than the Pies, who ranked last in shots/game with 7.8, 5 below league average & 1.4 below 17th.
Draft: Don’t overthink it, draft Ash Centra and get her into the midfield ASAP.

Now that the dust has settled on the #AFLW Grand Final, I have had a chance to gather my thoughts on what I think each team needs to target in the upcoming Trade/Free Agency and Draft period!

I'll be doing a post for each team, starting with Collingwood!

While GCS underperformed this year, I think their overall list needs improving.

Fascinating as well to see no coaching change at GWS yet, who, in my opinion, have the better list, but are also underperforming on field.

From the outside looking in, both club operations seem poor.

Game has started poorly for the Tillies, in spite of having some great space between the middle and forward thirds

Sucks that Fowler is out, this is the type of game where she could have dominated
