Journalism has a long and strong tradition of resisting authoritarianism and racial terror. In 2019 I made a podcast about that history, connecting it to the present day. Perhaps you will find it useful? push.fm/fl/vfsw

I love how the people in charge can do literal rape and pillage but they love to criminally prosecute people for swearing, mocking, and throwing sandwiches. Very neat stuff.

People are often invited into unlearning by love in the expansive sense. @lewispants.bsky.social noticed that what created the conditions for unlearning was, in part, or sometimes almost entirely about relationships. @prismreports.org

Honoring my ancestors today and always with the work of unlearning and social movement, even when they would not approve. Honoring the Black feminist traditions that taught me to love as action, not as sentimental or idealized feeling. Happy Halloween! All hands on deck!

My argument for radical unlearning is not about inner change preceding outward-facing action. We change in relationships, in imperfect and ongoing ways, and we have the power to create conditions for change in ourselves and others. We change through action and presence. truthout.org/articles/in-...

In yesterday's training with @interruptcrim.bsky.social, @lewispants.bsky.social illuminated how the language of "peaceful protests" is essentially copaganda, as it can throw marginalized groups under the bus, as some of us are more likely to be seen as "aggressive" or "hostile" just for existing! 👀
The No Kings protesters are putting out the rule book on how to be nice & polite so there’s no trouble, cops don’t always care about that though.

My latest reprinted in @truthout.org.
I've been struggling with hopelessness and rage, but am about to release a whole book's worth of stories about how change is possible. So now I'm struggling with being an emotional imposter. And yet, I know these stories are true and I believe we shape the world by shaping our surroundings.
