Howdy! I’m an instructional designer in Washington DC, working at an education nonprofit after many years in higher ed. Many of our students are in high school and college in So Cal, and I’m eager for more ways we can provide them community and support at such a difficult time. 💛 #BuildHopeEdu
Hey #buildHOPEedu — it’s Chris! I am a Gen Z/A expert, culture guru, kindness spreader, and adjunct professor. I send all the peace and comfort to those in the fires. May we be aware of how we may support to help our fellow citizens. Kindness will transform communities. May we all help! 🫶
Welcome to tonight's #BuildHOPEedu chat on #BlueSky!

Tonight, let us keep learningtogether! Let's reflect on Focus, Success & HOPE!

Please introduce yourself, tell us where you're from, what you do, and share with us a positive thought for those living a hard time in the LA area!

I’m interested in exploring how to offload some tedious manual tasks, like sorting hundreds of students into small groups based on certain criteria. That takes hours by hand, and AI just spits it out. More of that, please! #EduSkyAI
🦋 Q2: What are your AI resolutions for learning and/or efficiency? #EduSkyAI

Getting more creative in trying to AI-proof assessments and figuring out why a student would use it to circumvent learning. I remember the good ol’ days of “if students can Google the answer, you’re asking the wrong question.” Now it’s “if AI can do it, why am I asking students to?” #EduSkyAI
🦋 Q1: Welcome to a new year. How can AI help you be a better educator in 2025? #EduSkyAI @thenerdyteacher.bsky.social @mikelawrence.me

That trust between everyone has to build over time. One “minor” thing: group students around anything they have in common, however trivial, and telling them why. Once they know everyone in their group also loves Star Wars or fave color is green, it gives them a bond to build from. #EduSkyChat
QUESTION 2:

What strategies have you found most effective in creating a culture where all students feel empowered to share their voices?

Yes! Student input. I regularly say" there was a lot to like there, what went well?" And they point out all the good stuff and more. Then "what could have gone better?" They point out their own mistakes...and some of mine.

I started something new in our curriculum where we ask students what advice they would give to future students (and ask if we can use it, anonymously or with their first name). Most opt-in to share, and so we pull it in as quotes in various online modules on those topics. 1/2 #EduSkyChat
Q3. How do you ensure that the diverse perspectives and experiences of your students are authentically represented and valued in your teaching practices?

A3 Giving students different ways to share their voice but also giving them the space they want to share it in is important. I also know that I have a lot to learn myself. I know that I need to listen more and be mindful of my own bias as I learn how to ensure that all voices are heard. #EduSkyChat

As a student, I love collaborative annotation tools like Perusall for everyone to mark up a text with notes. Really effective at anchoring discussion in the material and levels the playing field between published expertise and our own emerging expertise. Trying to find a way to use it! #EduSkyChat
Q1. What is your favourite EdTech tool to amplify the voices of your students and how do you use it?

I been really liking Poll Everywhere and using an open-ended question and displaying the answer feed. So many rich contributions to bring in, and students can decide whether they want their contribution to be anonymous or not. #EduSkyChat
