Ola! We were the only outlet outside of Portugal to cover the game last night. That’s not a shot at anyone else, budgets are tight and there are lots of things to cover! Arseblog News paid to cover it, as the site has for many years now.

Looking at the correlation of xG with points by type (for, against, difference, set-piece, non set-piece & overall).

Highest correlated stats R² >0.3 are:
xGD Overall (0.46)
xGA Overall (0.44)
xGD Set-Piece (0.37)

The worst correlation is non set-piece xG for (R²=0.07)

A lot of talk about Arsenal not having the correct risk/reward balance.
But, objectively, they have the best goal difference and the best xGD in the league and they have had one of the hardest schedules so far.
Only Liverpool have scored more goals and they scored three of them with a man advantage.

0.19xG : Salah's current 10 game non penalty xG per 90 in the Premier League.
The first time in his Liverpool career that it has dropped below 0.20

Under Klopp it never dropped below 0.28

Liverpool with yet another late winner. Salah's 95th minute penalty against Burnley goes in as this season's 4th most clutch goal.

Any critique of Arteta playing a cagey gameplan would have to be levelled at Slot, who did the same — except with all his best players, at Anfield. Anything else is post hoc fallacy.

Today against AFC was the least xG Liverpool have ever generated in the PL whilst still managing to score a goal (for games that I have with data; going back to 2017-2018)

@simongleave.bsky.social Hi. ECI has odds for Premier League at 41% for Arsenal and 29% for Liverpool even though they have the same points and Liverpool have a slightly higher rating (4095 v 4047).

Do you know what is going on here?
