A second life. The new album, Wild Rice, documents my journey through a life altering love affair and a decade of reflection. Songs of love, lust, anger and regret.

Seeing Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at the @saltshedchicago.bsky.social this week was almost a spiritual experience. He made me cry. But @nickcavefeeds.bsky.social why’d you have to go and steal my album art concept? I’m just a poor starving artist. I ain’t got much.

He's credentialed but has no credibility. Not a populist, but he's popular.

He's more than popular... He's pure lowest common denominator.

Sometimes you just want to write a song that rises to meet the moment. But then I remembered I already had. When the bridge over the river is on fire, you have no choice but to take your chances with the crocodiles. Let’s go swimming.

#musiciansky I've removed the profile link to my linktree and have replaced it with youtube. Looking at the stats and it seems like that site is doing more harm. I get thousands of clicks, but no one ever clicks through. What has been everyone else's experience with this?

Posted this comment elsewhere, but I think when people tell you that the goal is to make enough content to "show the real person" behind the music what they really mean to say is, "you should be forming parasocial relationships with your audience so that you can bleed them dry". It's all grift.

I would love to ditch all of the meta apps and just post on bluesky but I get 0% engagement over here. I don’t even think my IRL friends ever even see any of these posts.

Why do you think the overseas press is giving Elon’s little nazi salute plenty of coverage but when I click around on US news sites it’s total radio silence? Hmmm…

Some days I just want to quit promoting music, quit being an audio designer and just go and rescue dogs who need my help. Anyone else ever feel this way?

Picked up Maniacs by @comboverbeethoven.bsky.social and I will be giving it a deep dive today. It's getting rave reviews from some of our peers and the track I already heard was pretty freaking brilliant! Really looking forward to this one.

Here’s an interesting thought experiment. If society collapses and the electrical grid is destroyed, which genres of music would go away?

Which could be played using acoustic instruments and which are entirely dependent on electricity?

Dubstep is out. What others would we lose? #societalcollapse

One of the things I like about Faith No More is that they understand that metal is an inherently silly genre.

Another thought after a long visit home. How much we like our parents is probably directly correlated to how much we like ourselves.

Driving back to Chicago.
Having some thoughts along the way. Visiting Athens again was a little bit like going back to school and seeing just how small the water fountains really were.

I visited @sharksandminnows.bsky.social headquarters during my recent visit to Atlanta. I was very honored to be asked to record some guest vocals for their upcoming album. The songs they played for me are so good. I hope I did them justice and gave them something they can use.

My song A Town Called Chapel was selected to be on Dancing About Architecture’s year end best of list, the Festive 48. My track comes in at number 14 but I’m not sure it’s that type of list… Still pretty sweet to be included.

I thought that I might spend some time choosing four songs from each month this year that represent the sort of bands I work with and that define the range of sounds and styles that come under the pen...

Is it any coincidence that the rise of fascisim has coincided with a rise in the popularity of technical shred guitarists and people telling you that you can’t make good music unless you know music theory?

I didn’t think so.

To all my new bsky friends, thanks to everyone who's taken some time to listen... This is the lyric video for A Murder of Crows, about becoming entangled in love with more than one partner, the transactional nature of those relationships and the harm we do to each other.
