Bed of arugula from the nearby farm store with sautéed 🧅, 🧄, fresh 🍄, yellow 🫑, and a quick splash of balsamic and a handful of fresh parsley at the end. (Throw the bell peppers in last to keep some of the crunch.) Dressed with good olive oil, micro planed parm, and ground pepper.

Brisket divine, turkey excellent, sausage really good, ribs perfect, I like lamb chops now, chef's kiss charro beans, fun pasta w/ poblano sauce, great potato salad, very nice pork stew. Only open Fri, Sat, Sun. Leftovers vacuum packed. Worth the trip!

Another Top 50 BBQ joint - Barbs BQ in Lockhart. Good things to come in about 30 minutes!

When there's a burn ban, you gotta use the fire pit for something! Sun tea is the best tea - 1.5 gallon jar with 5-6 tea bags and started with room temperature water in direct sunlight for 4-7 hours (depending on sunlight intensity, clouds, etc).

You all signed a blank check to Uncle Sam - some got cashed in full, and some in ways large and small that the rest of us don't see. Thank you.

Light dinner - eggs (poached) and arugula from a local farm store, shaved parmesan, sliced avocados, good olive oil, a few drops of balsamic from our last bottle from our trip to Italy in March, and black pepper.

Wife's on a kick. Apparently fermented foods are what's going to keep us alive. Fermented red onions below - going on about a week. Pretty good, nice crunch, but needs a little more time to sour up. So far we've done green 🍅, kimchi, escabeche, sauerkraut, and beets.

We're volunteering/staying at a state park near Austin, Tx for the next 3 months or so. There's a burn ban, so no grilling. However, we did pick up a nice bag of peppers at the farmer's market to make a banging escabeche (Mexican style pickled 🌶️ with 🧅, 🥕, and herbs).

Picked up a little something for Thanksgiving week when the kids are with us at Dad’s, and taking advantage of being here now to use Dad’s freezer instead of filling up our limited RV freezer

Corkscrew BBQ, Spring, Tx. @texasmonthly.bsky.social Top 50, 2024 Michelin star. Fabulous lunch for my 60th! Purposely over-ordered to have a couple of meals at home later. Got there 90 mins early, and already people waiting. Thankfully they use a line ticket system.

A Mexican meat market and taqueria opened just a couple of days ago in the town we’re in. Had to give them a shot at lunch. Pork chop for the wife and a selection of tacos for me. The barbacoa were the best of 4 pretty good tacos. Chop was slightly overcooked. Posole on Fridays!

Pizza on homemade sourdough slices. Sauce is homemade, with mozzarella, jalapeño sausage sliced super thin, artichoke hearts from Costco, and reconstituted oyster mushrooms from a small mushroom farm in the Dallas-Ft Worth area. Excellent!

As much as I’d love to see RUSH's 2026 anniversary tour, none of the dates work for us, and the $380-$1,000 pre-sale tickets dampen my enthusiasm. This ticket monopoly pricing is insane - I remember paying about $25/ticket at the machine in 7-11 in the very late '80s which is about $57 today.

Checked out a 2013 Top 50. When they fall they fall hard. Ribs were tasteless and barkless - seemed boiled and grilled. Brisket was mealy and not tender. No snap on sausage and weak flavor. Beans weird and served cold. Stopped eating at halfway. Hitch N Post, Livingston Tx. @bbqsnob.bsky.social

An easy, tasty and light dinner: Hickory smoked sausage from Costco, tomatoes and onions grilled on the Weber, my wife’s chickpea and artichoke salad, and a few avocado slices

Whoo boy. The Swiss are damn efficient. Apparently I exceeded the speed limit in a rental by less than 10kmh in Zurich and got caught by a camera. The letter took less than 2 wks to get to me. We processed the tourist sales tax refund upon departure ... that covered the €120 fine I paid online 😐
