Disappointing Lego Flags
@legoflags.bsky.social
I make flags out of Lego, but they’re not very good
These #FlagTypes have a fat horizontal stripe, with thinner stripes above and below that are the same colour as each other (if there’s a fancy vexillological name for this, I don’t know it): #Cambodia, #Lebanon, #Mauritania and #Spain 🇰🇭🇱🇧🇲🇷🇪🇸

I’ll be honest, I’m starting to run out of #FlagTypes categories, but flags with borders is a brilliant one and #Grenada, the #Maldives, #Nepal and #SriLanka are worthy winners 🇬🇩🇲🇻🇳🇵🇱🇰

What if a flag contains a single star but it’s not in the middle? My winners in this competitive #FlagTypes category are the #CentralAfricanRepublic, #Chile, #GuineaBissau and #Togo 🇨🇫🇨🇱🇬🇼🇹🇬

A reminder of the time I made #NewZealand replacement Damian McKenzie out of Lego, but for some reason he wasn’t wearing any shorts 🇳🇿

I selected my favourite #FlagTypes with a single star in the middle, and only then realised that - rather delightfully - I’d picked four different colours of star. Whether they’re actually star-shaped in Lego is a different matter: #Ghana, #Morocco, #Myanmar and #Vietnam 🇬🇭🇲🇦🇲🇲🇻🇳

I love a good fimbriation (just look at my #FlagTypes selections for diagonal stripes and Nordic crosses), and it’s an African clean sweep in the fimbriated horizontal stripes category: #Botswana, #Gambia, #Kenya and #SouthSudan 🇧🇼🇬🇲🇰🇪🇸🇸

If you seek a central circle in your #FlagTypes, it’s #Burundi, #Dominica, #Japan and #SouthKorea you want 🇧🇮🇩🇲🇯🇵🇰🇷

#FlagTypes There are surprisingly few national flags with a central cross, but it’s a high-quality field and the best ones are those of the #DominicanRepublic, #Georgia, #Switzerland and the #UnitedKingdom 🇩🇴🇬🇪🇨🇭🇬🇧

For #FlagTypes with plants or trees featuring prominently, there’s no need to branch out any further than #Canada, #Cyprus, #Lebanon and #SanMarino 🇨🇦🇨🇾🇱🇧🇸🇲

#FlagTypes My favourite flags with weapons on them are those of #Barbados, #Eswatini, #Kenya and #Oman 🇧🇧🇸🇿🇰🇪🇴🇲

Flags featuring animals (not including birds) are today’s #FlagTypes, and my favourites are #Croatia, #Malta, #Mexico and #SriLanka. You have to look quite closely to see some of the animals on the actual flags, let alone the Lego versions… 🇭🇷🇲🇹🇲🇽🇱🇰

If, however, your favourite #FlagTypes are the flags of British Overseas Territories with a Union Jack in the canton, there’s a bit more choice and the winners are #Anguilla, #Bermuda, the #BritishIndianOceanTerritory (for now) and the #FalklandIslands 🇦🇮🇧🇲🇮🇴🇫🇰
October 25, 2025 at 9:54 AM
If the flags of independent states with a Union Jack in the canton are your thing when it comes to #FlagTypes, your only options are #Australia, #Fiji, #NewZealand and #Tuvalu 🇦🇺🇫🇯🇳🇿🇹🇻

@sellingamirror.bsky.social This Year’s Love is this picture of a fella selling a mirror. It’s The One I Love. Something something Babylon something. Please Forgive Me.

#FlagTypes If you insist on multiple stars with your crescent moon, #Comoros, #Singapore, #Turkmenistan and #Uzbekistan have got what you crave 🇰🇲🇸🇬🇹🇲🇺🇿

In other news, today I had a conference call with splendid people from places as varied as the #CaymanIslands, #Ghana, #TrinidadandTobago and #Wales - and yes that’s a turtle, thanks for asking 🇰🇾🇬🇭🇹🇹🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
October 17, 2025 at 7:29 PM
I love finding new ways to make a crescent moon and star, and the winners of the corresponding #FlagTypes category - #Algeria, #Libya, #Malaysia and #Pakistan - showcase four different approaches 🇩🇿🇱🇾🇲🇾🇵🇰

Most flags with both vertical and horizontal axes of symmetry are excellent, so congratulations to #Botswana, #Georgia, #Jamaica and #NorthMacedonia on winning an especially competitive #FlagTypes category 🇧🇼🇬🇪🇯🇲🇲🇰
October 11, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Sure enough, charged equal horizontal tribands are the next #FlagTypes category, and the honours go to #Azerbaijan, #Croatia, #Myanmar and #Venezuela 🇦🇿🇭🇷🇲🇲🇻🇪
October 9, 2025 at 7:53 PM
The winners in the charged vertical triband #FlagTypes category are #Barbados, #Mexico, #Moldova and #Mongolia, and there are bonus points available if you can spot the duck looking backwards 🇧🇧🇲🇽🇲🇩🇲🇳
October 7, 2025 at 6:32 PM
Today’s #FlagTypes category is stars (or in many cases star, and in Lego usually circle/circles) and stripes, where the victors are #Cuba, #Liberia, #Togo and the #UnitedStates 🇨🇺🇱🇷🇹🇬🇺🇸

Some important non-Lego, non-flag news: I’ve discovered that my phone always gives me these three suggestions for “Wacky”, and I can’t stop laughing at the unknown series of events that leads it to think I probably want to say “Wacky wizards”, “Wacky wizard” or “Wacky Friday”

It’s Independence Day in #Botswana tomorrow, and today they’re having a bonus national holiday to celebrate winning the men’s 4x400m at the World Athletics Championships last week. Sounds like a grand couple of days - enjoy! 🇧🇼

I’m enjoying watching some cycling on TV from #Rwanda for a change 🇷🇼
