“Where are they? I checked the closet in your bedroom. I only saw suits and something you’d wear to a parent teacher conference.” Though, he had been in a hurry.

“Don’t tempt me. I’ve been told I’m a great host.”
"I have a lot more casual clothes," he said, defensively. Clark just didn't look hard enough.

"I don't need much unless you secretly plan to kidnap me."
When Clark returned, he had a a bag packed with more casual clothes for Bruce… at least, what little he could find.

“So, you may need to borrow some of my clothes. Suits aren’t great for relaxing,” he teased.

“So, you may need to borrow some of my clothes. Suits aren’t great for relaxing,” he teased.
"Unoriginal," he commented after Clark left, not bothering to hide his amusement.

Then he was alone for a few more seconds, maybe minutes. Warm, a different kind of warmth that he couldn't put a finger on. It was nice.
“Of course. Be back in a flash.” And with that, he was gone. Bruce had a moment of actual tranquillity.

“Of course. Be back in a flash.” And with that, he was gone. Bruce had a moment of actual tranquillity.
Silence.

Not maddening for once. He could breathe without being too aware of his surroundings, or at least he'd try.

"I... suppose. Yes. You remember where my room is?"
Once he had helped clean up, it was less than a moment before they were surrounded by swaying fields, gentle breezes, and a distant bird calls. But most importantly?

Silence.

“If you want to head on inside, I can go back to Gotham and get you some clothes?”

He tried hard enough. It wouldn't hurt to humor him a little, would it? He took Clark's hand, much softer compared to his rough and calloused one. "Alright."
“If you’re willing,” he offered, hand still extended. If Bruce wanted to wait, he wouldn’t be offended… but he had to try to get Bruce to relax.

He stared at Clark's hand for a moment, then his face.

"Right now?"
“I’ll have you back in Gotham before you could even suit up.” He promised, offering a hand.

"That's what everyone has been saying," he muttered. Maybe it was time to listen. "And you promised to let me know if anything happens..."
“Can’t blame me for trying.” He hummed, standing up and moving to Bruce’s side. “You deserve a break. Even a short one.”

If you need money, Roy, you can just ask.

“Can’t blame me for trying.” He hummed, standing up and moving to Bruce’s side. “You deserve a break. Even a short one.”
"Now you're asking for the whole day? I thought it's just for tonight," he huffed out a short laugh and stood to take the empty plates to the sink.
“Oh, sorry.” He nodded, understanding. “So, can I steal you now for your relaxing day?” He offered with a smile, trying to change the subject as quickly as he could.

He visibly tensed up at the mention of her name.

"It's complicated," he answered, again, impassively. It really was with the way they left things off. "Don't ask."
“‘Just fine,’ is about all I have. But I would do anything for him.” He didn’t want to dump on Bruce so he nodded.

“So, how is Selena?”

“So, how is Selena?”
And he would keep that in mind.

He stacked Clark's empty plate on top of his and nodded. "I understand," sometimes he was more than worried about his children. "You seem to get along with him just fine."
“I’m just saying, he’s a good kid and sometimes they need to hear it or they start to forget.”

Clark finished the pancake, pushing the plate slightly forward. “And it’s a bad habit I’m trying to break. I’m just… worried about Jon.”

"Don't tell me you were eavesdropping on their conversation," he sighed. "Yes, I tell him from time to time. And I do mean it."
“Both,” he answered truthfully. “Make sure you tell him that. I know he knows but sometimes they like to hear it.”

"To you or did you hear that from Jon?

I know. He's... yes. He is. And I'm glad."
“He mentioned he’s been volunteering at the hospital. He’s a good kid, Bruce.” He offered a comforting smile.

"Though, they seem busy lately. Especially Damian..."
“They’re always invited! You don’t have to ask ever.”

“They’re always invited! You don’t have to ask ever.”
"I believe everything in her book is good," he nodded thoughtfully, "maybe we can invite the kids too."
“Than a barbecue? Well, I can make anything. I’ll look at Ma’s recipe book. Pick something good.”

"You think you're funny," if it was anyone else, he might come off as impassive. But he genuinely found humor in his words. "Something a little less elaborate."
“So, in Smallville, we had these things called leftovers. It’s where you reheat food you made on another day,” he teased. “What would you prefer instead?”

"I do, but grilling out? Just us? That doesn't seem like the right occasion."
“Then we’re grilling out. You like barbecue chicken?”

"I put you through the same thing," Damian's training might be stricter.

"You're cooking next time."
“Oh, yeah. And the training Damian puts him through? I don’t blame him,” he teased, finishing the last bite.

“We should do breakfast more often.”

The mention of his son's name made him stop for a while. It must have been when he was younger.

"Yes," he replied with a subtle smile, "it's the same for Jon now, hm?"
“I remember Jason eating. He was bottomless, like a vacuum cleaner.” He joked, fork stabbing a few more pieces and popping them into his mouth.

"Let him, he's still young," he commented before taking a bite of his pancake.
“I don’t know how you manage. Sometimes, I’m worried Jon will keep eating until he pops.”

"What can I say? Those boys never stop eating. Someone has to cook when Alfred isn't around."
Clark smirked, getting to work on finishing the pancakes.

“These are… actually delicious. I didn’t know you could cook.”

"How about you finish your breakfast first?"
July 13, 2025 at 7:38 PM
“Good. How about tonight?”
"Stop being so persistent," he sighed. "Fine, one night. I'll humor you."
“How about for a night? I can be there, let you know if anything in Gotham needs you.”

“How about for a night? I can be there, let you know if anything in Gotham needs you.”
"You know that's never going to work, right? A weekend seems... too long."
“One of these days, I’m going to convince you to get away, come to Smallville for a weekend.”

“One of these days, I’m going to convince you to get away, come to Smallville for a weekend.”
"Not today," he shook his head. Though he appreciated the suggestion.

"Some of them reported in early, surprisingly getting enough sleep."
“You need more sleep, he suggested, offering a soft smile. “The boys?”
