Forced labour, residential schools, separation of children and parents, mass "forced marriage," totalized surveillance, and more. We all know what to call this, right?

As Shawn Fain and the UAW continue to betray Canadian workers and enthusiastically empower Trump, look for your union allies elsewhere. Like Michigan: www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
UAW leaders in Michigan break with Fain on tariffs against Canada | CBC News
Some of UAW President Shawn Fain’s own leaders in Michigan say they don’t support a trade war with Canada – a country they say has been both a friend and reliable partner to the U.S.

Just got my first unhinged anti-semitic email: "People don't hate you because you're Jewish. They hate you because you're inhuman." I'll add it the file of misogynist emails collected over years of teaching in women's studies.

Can we all just stop pretending that @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social is social democratic? A shameful government in this province.
NEW - BC’s rare drugs committee will not be revising recommendation to discontinue coverage of Brineura for Charleigh Pollock. BC Health Minister Josie Osborne says all relevant evidence provided by advocates for Pollock were already considered in the decision to discontinue the drug. #bcpoli

It has been eye opening to see the willingness of (the big) American unions throw the most vulnerable workers under the bus. Those of us who have benefitted from being unionized: we must do better than this. dhttps://www.labornotes.org/blogs/2025/02/international-solidarity-union-answer-tariffs
International Solidarity Is the Union Answer to Tariffs and Deportations
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain has recently expressed the UAW’s readiness to “work with Trump on trade.” Teamsters President Sean O’Brien spoke on a podcast against “illegal immigrants that ...

Um, isn't blackmail illegal? Also, can I just vent at Peter McKay for selling out the PC's to this nonsense?
A decade of whining about people concerned about John A MacDonald's actions + legacy, & a reckoning w honest history, & who are the first people to try to destroy the country or give in to Trump: these folks. Manning, Smith et al.

It's been the season of political 360s. This one is incredible.
Preston Manning says Western Canadian political leaders should pursue secession if the Liberals form government after this election.

The @uaw.org should take a page from Greenland's book. Collaboration is an ugly look for a union that cheers on Trump while it claims to stand for social justice (note: they're delusional if they think Trump will deliver union jobs).

Good grief -Trump doesn't know the difference between liberals and the Liberal Party and Poilievre is hoping Canadians don't know the difference either.

Another case of what appears to be illegal detention and possibly torture by US border officials. Not surprised: this was telegraphed and celebrated during the election campaign. Many Americans chose actively - and passively- for this outcome.

Honestly it saddens me to say this because I do not want poor Americans to suffer, but the only way America learns from this catastrophe is if the very people who voted for it suffer material economic and societal consequences for their selfishness and cruelty.

Absolutely pathetic. Remember that many unions have long histories of racist, misogynist, and anti-immigrant politics, often couched - like this statement - in a populist language that echoes the hard right. www.theguardian.com/us-news/live...

The refusal of so many Americans to acknowledge the stakes in this election is not something I'll ever forget. The stink of their failure to act in the face of what was knowable and preventable will sit on them for generations.
My entire sector got fed to the woodchipper. We will see mass HIV and TB deaths. Large scale starvation. Possibly the return of polio. Economic collapse in poor countries. Likely 250,000 job losses. And people are still talking about private letters to Republican senators to find common ground

Just listened to Trump and Vance at this meeting and they can only be understood as narcissistic sociopaths. Shame on them; shame on every American who voted for them, or sat this election out to give Biden the finger, or saw "no difference" between Trump and Harris.

Volodymyr Zelensky: I didn't come here to play cards.

This, a thousand times this.
It is a simplistic trope that MAGA / Reform / populist right voters are all downtrodden white working class in left-behind post-industrial small towns. There's also a huge cohort of aggrieved middle class radicalized by social media anecdotes, and convinced small amounts of equality are oppression

Good one! If we put up 10K of these, I do believe we've met our border security promise.
In a TV panel on Tuesday, and I joked that Canada's promised "24/7 eyes on the border" should be some hockey sticks with googly eyes jammed in a snowbank.
Aaron and his mom KJ, in Winnipeg, liked the idea, so they made us some truly amazing border sentries. I hope Mr. Trump feels more secure now.

I keep posting stories like this because they are getting lost in the horror show that is developing south of our border. Musk is trying to steal sensitive personnel information from USAID - information on people doing crucial work on women's and human's rights. Trump and Musk will get them killed.
