There is such rich value in references. Immersing yourself in the depth of human culture, history, and art makes your art be better. It is always beneficial for artists to learn how and why something works, how that informs design, shape, and colour, and how they can reflect that in their work.

Replacing the phase of a production that is supposed to be about thinking and quickly communicating specific ideas about shape, colour, and design with a workfloe that utilises generative ai betrays a fundamental lack of understanding about what things like concept art are there for.

Playing with the topology I made for my Krampus. Reasonably pleased with the level of form fidelity I'm getting out of it.
Here it is at 9.5k, 38k, and 150k aprox.

Remembered I had a Krampus sculpt sitting around from last Yule. Did it a quick retopo and reprojected. Bit of stuff to fix, but liking where he's heading!

Guess it's time for everyone at a WB studio to start making sure their CVs and folios are up to date. These massive corporate buy-outs always end up in layoffs. Having to live in the dumbest least cool version of cyberpunk sucks.

Occasionally you'll do an art project you end up not quite doing justice to, and when that happens it's nice to sometimes come back and fix that. Harriet the swamp witch is getting the texturing and lookdev glow-up she deserved years ago :D

So, I think Hank has this wrong, and I think he ends up doing a thing that smart people often do where he ends effectively batting for one side of a dichotomy in the name of trying to make things nuanced. LLMs can have limited usefulness while still mostly being low quality.
There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.

I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.

Thoughts?

Not my usuall stuff, but had a crafty time and hand stitched a pain of nisse hats for my wife and I!

Still doing rig tests on Kain. The armour and head are about ready to go. Still haven't found a neat way to attach and drive the skull and mask to the hooks on the belt, so that might be a thing I just end up manually animating if I do any animations with the full kit.

Kain's rig is coming close to being finished, so soon it'll be time to figure out presentation shots! Been a busy year, but glad to see this one coming to a close!

This evening was spent fiddling with rigging, getting Kain's armour to play along. Took ages to get the drivers for the tasset plates and pauldrons to play along so they move right (more video in the comments)
