Going into my studio, painting what I find beautiful, is a tonic. Here I’ve painted my love for the airiness, color, wildness of sweet peas, their entrancing tendrils. They’re called “sweet” for their lovely fragrance.

I'm definitely feeling the influence of my surroundings. Vilanova celebrates Carnival for two weeks. Each corner of the town is decorated and every event seems more colorful and exuberant than the last.

Finished this today. Exploring pushing color to point where hopefully not garish but interesting and lively without blending.

The intention was alla prima, but I still am timid about putting down enough paint in one session. I am pleased that I did not blend and many of the places I put down paint on the first go still remain.

Sorolla was in my studio today guiding me in alla prima.
Limited palette: white, black, burnt sienna, burnt umber, yellow ochre. Very quick, striving for the essential. Not a master copy but the master was definitely the inspiration.
