The USA has withdrawn from the UN Human Rights Council. In related news, immigrants are being housed at Guantanamo Bay. Lord, have mercy.

You can doubt the Chiefs. You can dislike the Chiefs. You can disrespect the Chiefs, but you’re gonna have to deal with the #Chiefs

Sixty-three years old. Recently bought my first stand mixer. Why did I wait so long? Because my mother never had one. And today I bought my first kitchen scale...because Mom never had one. Crazy, right? If you need me, I'll be in the kitchen, exploring a whole new baking universe! #baking

Dear Patriots fans:
I apologize for all those years I accused you of cheating. I understand now. You really were just that good.
Sincerely, a Chiefs fan

I met with the pastor of the Lutheran Church I've been attending to gauge their true level of inclusivity. Pastor says one of the conditions of his hire was his willingness to perform same sex weddings. I'm home, y'all. I found my people. #elca

Just added "Smooches for Pooches" dog treats to my Valentine's offerings for baked goods. Not a business, just trying to recoup some expenses to support my current baking addiction. #baking

I couldn't get to church today because of the ice & snow. This will do. Thanks to Ben Cremer for the recommendation. bibleproject.com/explore/vide...
Justice Biblical Theme
Why is justice such an important, and sometimes controversial, topic in our world today? What does the Bible have to say about justice?

All those words yesterday at the Carter service about character and integrity, but I suspect the message did not penetrate the hardened hearts of those most in need of the message. Every preacher can relate. #preaching

The same people lauding Jimmy Carter's character are invoking slurs and insults against some of those who attended today's service. Connect the dots, people. Be like Jimmy.

This teacher remembers when the class clown ran for Senior Class President as a joke. Kids vote for him as a joke, and he wound up winning. And the kids were dismayed, but it was too late. They were stuck with him.

Sober Peeps: We have an ongoing debate at our house. My husband insists the correct term is "recovering," since we only have a daily reprieve. But the Big Book of AA clearly says we "have recovered." Which term do you use, recovering or recovered? #sobriety

I've referred to myself as "expat clergy," indicating my frustration with the state of American Christianity. But today I gave the local ELCA church another look. I worshipped, was nourished, and...well, I'm baking cookies for the luncheon this Wednesday. I guess I'm still in. #church

I believe the institution of the American Church has lost its prophetic voice in a time when our nation desperately needs prophets.
I am hearing from other clergy--even active ones--who agree with me, but they do not feel safe speaking out. My heart breaks for them. #church

Reading Mark 2, the healing of the paralytic. A couple of thoughts.

1. Many of us have felt paralyzed since Nov. 5. Jesus tells us to take up our mat and get moving.

2. It is the friends' faith, not the paralytic's, that results in healing. Our faith can carry others when things appear hopeless.

The cats seem to have the canines outnumbered in this community! I've encouraged Jethro to join, but he's clearly not interested. #doglife

In the aftermath of the election, it is good soul care to create things of beauty. I decided, at age 63, to try my hand at baking--something more than boxed cake mix. Chocolate Yule log with (a very messy) raspberry cream filling and chocolate ganache. #baking
