"Ligavatuvuce (Hands that Offer and Uplift)," a winning submission to LAGI 2025 Fiji by Young Kang (United Arab Emirates), incorporates solar photovoltaic, battery storage, and rainwater harvesting with biofiltration to produce 120 MWh of electricity and 4.5 million liters of filtered water each year. The artwork shows two human hands rising from the landscape holding a bilo (kava drinking cup) as a gesture of offering. The interior of the bowl is lined with solar modules and the shape of the artwork acts to collect and store rainwater. "The O," a winning submission to LAGI 2025 Fiji by Alberto Roncelli (Denmark), incorporates solar photovoltaic, battery storage, and rainwater harvesting to produce 150 MWh of electricity and 1.2 million liters of filtered water each year. The artwork is a shaped as a perfect circle, a solar-powered pavilion that unites clean energy, rainwater harvesting, and cultural gathering beneath a 40-meter-wide timber canopy.

We are honored to learn today that the Hon. Viliame Gavoka, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, took the time today on the floor or Parliament to share the progress of LAGI 2025 Fiji on the occasion of the exhibition at Fiji Arts Council.

This community infrastructure project weaves renewable energy and ecological design into a modular, low-cost canopy system and sponge park — providing power, potable water, flood control, and public gathering space for Marou Village. Each module integrates 18 solar modules, each with a 5.7 kW capacity, for a total of 86 kW across the site. Electricity is stored through a lithium iron phosphate battery array and an insulated ice battery system, which maintains refrigeration through nights and overcast days. Smart controls automate performance monitoring and energy distribution. The bowl’s interior slope is embedded with photovoltaic panels arranged along a radial curve to optimize solar exposure. Beneath the central structure, batteries and technical systems are housed in a protected enclosure. In Marou Village, this modular system of solar canopies and rainwater harvesting becomes a woven landscape: a place where tradition meets technology, and each resident has a hand in shaping the environment they rely on. At its core is a steel structural module, designed for standardized fabrication, easy assembly, and resilience to storms. The roof collects solar power and rainwater. But its outermost layer — what makes it sing — is the cloth: masi, tapa, and woven mats designed and crafted by community members. These textiles act as windbreaks, insulation, visual identity, and cultural story. No two are the same.
