Fighting for Human Rights from the epicenter of Human Rights violations, Skid Row U.S.A. Human Rights Defenders and truth tellers. Black Lives Matter. Free Palestine. https://linktr.ee/lacanetwork
They’re trying to silence Black leadership and take control of our communities. But Black leadership isn’t the problem, it’s the solution. Now more than ever, we must protect it, defend it, and grow it. Because the freedom we fight for is our own.

Black August began behind prison walls to honor freedom fighters like George Jackson and W.L. Nolen. It remains today a commitment to study and discipline. We continue to carry this fire forward. Study. Fast. Train. Fight.

What happens when someone known for prosecuting houselessness is handed the keys to the agency created decades ago to end it?

The LAHSA Commission votes this Friday, 9 am at 637 Wilshire Blvd. Pull up!

Protest posters across five decades - different eras, same fight.

Some of the posters featured in this deck haven’t been lost thanks to CSPG’s amazing work. Their archive preserves this visual history of resistance. We appreciate y’all.

“Healthy Streets” is not about health, it’s about disappearance. Laws like 41.18 don’t protect people, they erase them. Unhoused folks are being pushed out, punished, and policed for existing in public. We fight for a city that doesn’t throw anyone away.

ICE is conducting a series of raids in DTLA today. Many workers were arrested outside of local businesses. If we don’t fight back now, they will come for more of us.

What’s happening in HALA housing isn’t “affordable” it’s straight up abandonment. Rotting walls, no security, no mail delivery - causing elderly tenants to go weeks without medication, people missing out on important documents and deadlines. This is a human rights crisis.

Another encampment sweep today. People were forced out with little notice, no real support, and had to leave their essential belongings behind. Afterward, a city worker used someone’s mattress 🤬 what they slept on 🤬 to clean the street.

Newsom’s new “model ordinance” targets unhoused people and escalates state violence instead of addressing the housing crisis.

Framed as a compassionate response to California’s housing crisis, this policy is in fact rooted in displacement, criminalization, & more state violence.

Mayor Karen Bass unveiled a $13.95 billion budget that protects police funding while cutting deeply into other departments. Over 2,700 city jobs are being eliminated. Half of LA’s animal shelters will be forced to close. Housing support & services residents rely on everyday will shrink or disappear.

Today, the LA City Council voted to remove the Produce Hotel from REAP, knowing full well that tenants are living without heat, without fire safety, without ventilation, without dignity. But while they chose profits and backroom deals, WE CHOSE EACH OTHER. Skid Row is not for sale.
May 7, 2025 at 10:50 PM
LA CAN stands in strong opposition to the City’s plan to remove the Produce Hotel from REAP, despite ongoing, documented violations inside. Mold. Rotting floors. Roaches. Broken fire systems. These are daily realities for Black and Latinx tenants in Skid Row.

For over two decades, our friends at WRAP have been on the front lines, demanding an end to the criminalization of houselessness. They’ve never stopped reminding us: housing is a human right, not a privilege. House keys, not handcuffs. ⛓️‍💥 End the sweeps for good. Listen as Dogon speaks some truth.

Give our people house keys not handcuffs!

Medicaid cuts are a direct attack on our communities and this threatens the well-being of millions. These cuts will disproportionately impact Black and brown communities, where access to quality healthcare is already limited. We need a world where healthcare is a right for all.

As landlords continue to price gouge in an unaffordability crisis, let’s keep our neighbors housed! #LowerTheRent #StrongerRentControl #LARSO

On 2/28/25, Iowa's governor signed a bill removing gender identity from civil rights law under the guise of protecting women. It limits transgender & nonbinary rights, including changing gender markers on birth certificates. This law takes effect 7/1/25.
