Hey, I'm on Letterboxd. Let's talk shit about movies together here. I'm going to be really annoying about superheroes, coming of age comedies, and exploitation classics.

This Chicago O'Hare flight is awful. Pretty much on the tarmac the whole time due to the government shutdown.

so many of the small indignities of daily life come from us being denied the ability to tell a rich man in a tech company to fuck off. minesweeper has microtransactions. paid services have ads. the opt out says maybe later. the drive thru is a broken chatbot. your car is an ipad. fuck off! fuck off!

I'm back here in this cursed no-show site to talk about Coachella. @tombreihan.bsky.social was brilliant in his analysis of the fest poster, and how it speaks to Where We Are Now™. There really is nothing left of the monoculture, is there?

I can't scream "nope" loud enough. I want actual people to make things for me so I can share them with other people and thank the creators for doing good work.

So when I heard the Colbert news, my first thought was that it would make a great Studio 60 arc, and I hated myself for it.

My God, I just discovered Antenna, and it's got one of my favorite singers from the past 15 years leading it. "Lost" and "Antenna State" are classics in waiting.

SUPERMAN is a great and welcome trip to a different world at the movies. It's filled with characters that want to do the right thing, whatever the cost, and it reminds us that optimism is preferable to political gamesmanship and segmenting of lives as pawns. Plus, Krypto and Jimmy Olsen rule.

Every now and then I post on this place, and then realize that it'll never be what the Other Site was in its prime. Oh, The Other Site is far worse now, and I deleted my account, but it's all gone.

So I'm here now in the wreckage of what was and will never be, how you doin'.

I also have a complicated background, so seeing this crusade against Mamdani really pisses me off.
I love that former NYT public editor @sulliview.bsky.social is public-editing from the outside.

"With this made-up scandal, combined with the pre-election editorial, the Times looks like it’s on a crusade against Mamdani.

"And no lofty explanation about the mission can disguise it."

I loved Better Man. Yes, I loved the Robbie Williams CGI monkey movie. It's one of the best depictions of depression I have seen onscreen, and it is a wildly entertaining bit of fiction that contains some universal truths. It deserves more than some write-off about its box office.

A vital piece by @nathangrayson.bsky.social that feels so needed right now. It reminds me of Joan Didion's "Los Angeles Notebook," which makes me think that this sort of description of LA and its people will get retold with great accuracy each decade.

Great stuff, I'm off to subscribe.

That moment where you know something can't be real, but dammit if the past decade hasn't proven that we're far past whatever reality we can muster.
"They have it now where — have you seen it? — the bullets can go back into the guns. Zip. It's new. It's called: Tenet. And it's perfect. My generals keep telling me that we can use Tenet. So that's what we're going to do."
