I grow Cuban Oregano as a houseplant because I love the smell of the leaves. A subtle lime scent when you rub them.

Overwintering Bullseye Salmon geranium in the porch. Was easy to start from seed.

Northern garden update. Got snow cover and four winter sowing jugs ready.

At -17 Fahrenheit bubbles freeze and finches puff up to the size of cardinals.
A frozen bubble sits in the gap between brown deck boards dusted with frost. Numerous birds sit in maple trees against a bright blue sky. They are purple finches, some with pink and white and some mostly brown.

Fluffy snow in the sugar maple grove.
Snow is falling and can be seen against the dark brown maple trees. The color scheme is shades of white and gray, even the trees look brownish gray.

It’s really cold so I’m going to winter sow today.
A coffee mug from Effin Birds is white with a black Canada goose and says tabernak. Purple scissors, a black Sharpie, empty water jug, gray duct tape, and several seed packs will be used.

The bunnies party by the whiskey planters.
Five whiskey barrel planters, some have dried marigolds. Numerous rabbit tracks are on the snow covered patio, most in the bottom left. Sun is causing shadows from the right.

It’s a cloudy wintry morning.
The sun is peeking through a break in the clouds. Smoke bush branches reach toward the sky. Overall shades of gray except around the sun it’s light blue.

Happy that the camera works at 5 below zero. I could see the cardinal’s breath this morning.

Pollinator garden update. Has a blanket of snow, wish we had more.
Snow covers a pollinator garden along the street and between two gray houses. A couple of dark green conifers can be seen on the left and large deciduous trees in the background. Dried bee balm, rattlesnake master, sedum and asters are some of the plants.

The cardinals enjoy the new feeder.

This is why I like having dogwoods right by the windows. Hard to see but there are four cardinals in the photo.

Won a camera bird feeder at bingo last week, installed yesterday during the snowstorm. Testing it out by the fishpond.

Sorting through seeds and placing orders today. It was helpful to look at what worked vs what didn’t this year to determine next year’s plans.

Yippee, it finally snowed! The fish pond is starting to freeze over.
A rusty pump sits by a large rock on a snow covered limestone pond border. Mostly dried native plants surround the pond. Ice is starting to form along the left surface with dead pond plants underneath.
