Chattel Slavery itself didn't end because of any moral or ethical awakening by European/white peoples but because of capitalism changing from an agrarian age into an industrial age that ushered in wage exploitation. Wage exploitation was more profitable for the ruling class.
Britain didn’t end the slave trade out of compassion.
