Did everyone notice that Maggie Smith buried “turned in my next book of poems” in the middle of her list? I squealed!
Today I went for a run in the rain, made amends with a friend, turned in my next book of poems, baked a chocolate buttermilk layer cake with cocoa cream cheese frosting, & now I’m making scratch mac & cheese for dinner.

I’d like a merit badge, please.

(Yes, I know there are no merit badges.)

Another reason I miss being in the classroom: teaching living poets (I still love retirement)

One of my favorite short stories to teach was Edith Wharton’s “Roman Fever,” which also inspired me to want to learn to knit. So I took a class last November. I’ve now knit a large blanket for each DIL, 6 baby blankets, and 4 pumpkins. It’s kept me busy during retirement.

Advice from a Literature teacher and resister: read your history, but don’t forget your literature.

Resistance is woven through the words of abolitionism and feminism and anti-fascism. Read the history and the literature.

Retirement is going so well that I may return to the classroom 2nd semester to be an English 1 teacher for the rest of the school year 😂
