V happy to meet new additions to this wild blue yonder space. Hallo & welcome! I'm into cake, books (read a few, written some) history, Australian aviation (people not machines; I'm interested in what they felt more than what they did), captivity, & cats. More at www.kristenalexander.com.au
David's pleased with his lifeline finds. Some to sell, some for him, & one for me. Warrior, Soldier, Brigand @docconnor.bsky.social has duly been swiped for her library. I'm not as impressed with two of his finds. How could anyone discard them? They should be treasured!!!!

Transcribing oral history interviews. Or at least relevant bits. Definitely needed a reward afterwards. Look @narrellemorris.bsky.social at top notch choc chip and blueberry muffin! And cost was a lot less that at the other place. Sometime research (and afterwards) is fun. BTW: some 'gold'.

Cake store! And eyes is bigger than my stomach. Fortunately, I have a big freezer.

I've been trying to set up zoom on my lap top. It gives me the option of putting in a virtual background. So I thought, why not my own bookcases rather than some scenery thing? I did a little bit of rearranging. It's very subtle ... can you see what I've done?

Western contrails!

It is no secret I'm a techo idiot. Spent A Very Long Time downloading zoom onto my lap top. Couldn't link it to my calendar. Couldn't work out how to do a background pic. No guarantee it will actually work on the day when I will need to turn up and share a powerpoint. Fingers crossed.

Aust-day at archives. Looking for a specific doc. This file, cited by secondary source as relating to March 1943, had docs only Dec 43-early 44. Finished <10 mins. David wouldn't be back to pick me up for an hour so, morning tea! But mini muffin was stale. 😞

I do love losing myself a jigsaw puzzle! Unfortunately, my fingers are not the most deft so I prefer to do the smaller ones with larger pieces. Which is good because I can finish them relatively quickly just in case the dining table has to revert to its original purpose! As it will next week.

When not eating cake or writing, I work for War & Society journal. Really proud of our latest report. Almost 71K downloads for 2025 & just on 21k for the last QTR. We get some fantastic articles & it's a joy to read them. www.tandfonline.com/loi/ywar20

Dodgy camera work: missed part of the book title! Atlantic Furies by @midgegillies.bsky.social. Absolutely top flight. But I didn't miss the croissant! (Reader, you can see that I did share - a bit). Back to the book though. I've read a lot of Gillies' work and this just as Brilliant #histbookchat

Some beautiful sky this evening. And a much cooler walk.

Glorious crêpe myrtle!

Our local 'weather station' always gets it right! If you are sweltering through the 5789th (or so it seems) day of our heat wave, stay cool. A pour a glass of iced T.

Up early for a walk before it gets too hot. So this little fellow before I had even set foot out the front yard. I know they are a nuisance but to me they are a joy.

Just the faint breath of fresh air on my evening walk after a scorching day. I overestimated my distance and came home in the dark!

Still working my way through my Christmas reading pile. I matched this Christmas themed book with the last of the Christmas tarts.

It's very hot outside but Miss Millie is snug in her nest inside.

Iced coffee. A good way to start a hot day.

It’s just too dry for this little fella.

Shady pathway.

After my 15 minute research trip naturally I had to have lunch. David did too. It is tiring and hungry work waiting for me to do my thing. Anyway, lunch. Actually, any excuse to get back to my book. Brilliant, as always. And just a tad scary. As always.

Visited the Australian War Memorial's Charles Bean Research Centre this morning. Mighty impressed! Spent more time gawping and catching up with staff than actually researching ... the files I'd asked for were 'off chances' and did not reveal much.
