Literary agent at @unteragency.bsky.social. Once (and future?) author. Friendly neighborhood introvert. (Opinions are, of course, my own, and you can also find me at kristavandolzer.wordpress.com)
Put two new books on submission this week for the first time in my career. Now I'm pleasantly exhausted and very glad that it's the weekend.

When a Border Patrol agent fatally shoots a law-abiding United States citizen, you know something is seriously out of whack.

Blueskyers, I need your help! I've got some money to spend on books and could use your recommendations. What books have you read lately that you absolutely loved? (Bonus points if they're MG or YA books that came out last year!)

We're pleased to announce that @kristavandolzer.bsky.social has made her first sale. Congrats to debut author Maria Oka, whose #MG #contemporary with a hint of magic just sold to Shadow Mountain! #middlegrade #magicalrealism

I used to be the sort of reader who never gave up on a book, who read until the bitter end, but since I've become an agent, I've found it much easier to put down published books I'm not genuinely enjoying. They've got to meet the same high standard I apply to manuscripts!

PSA: I'll be closing to queries on December 20 and reopening on January 3. Please plan accordingly!

My suburban-rural county wants me to approve a bond so they can build a new courthouse "to improve government efficiency." Somehow, I think the government will keep running as (in)efficiently as it always has, new courthouse or no...

Made a spaghetti sauce last night with diced-up frozen chicken nuggets to put off going to the store.

I think this may qualify as a new culinary low.

My #FridayReads is Becky Dean's LOVE UNMASKED, which I scooped up at the library on a friend's recommendation!

In the past, I've heard agents say that agents get rejected, too, by editors or prospective clients, but in my experience, this doesn't hurt nearly as much as when my writing gets rejected.

Haven't had a chance to get to the library lately, so I have no #FridayReads (other than manuscripts, of course!). What are you reading today?

When fans of my alma mater's rival tweet factual inaccuracies or grammatical nonsense, I have a really hard time not weighing in. #ResistKristaResist

Got an email about the Anthropic settlement this morning. If you're a traditionally published author whose book came out before 2023 (I think), you may be eligible to file a claim.

Had to pass just now on multiple MG contemporaries that I thought had merit but would be too tricky to sell in the current market:(

Best way to figure out what kinds of books I'm looking for? Scroll the books I read for fun: www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

(I don't solicit queries for adult fiction at this time, but I'd definitely consider YA titles with similar vibes!)

My #FridayReads is Ann Liang's I HOPE THIS DOESN'T FIND YOU, which, like her other books, has been a fast-paced read so far! #mswl

If you've ever wanted to know how many #queries an agent gets and what the genre breakdown looks like, this blog post may be for you: kristavandolzer.wordpress.com/2025/09/04/q...
Queries by the Numbers
It’s now been four and a half months since I started accepting queries, so I thought you might appreciate a peek under the hood.

Hot take: cake doughnuts are inferior to both cake and doughnuts. Give me cake or give me doughnuts, but don't try to give me both.
