I am an amateur birder and wildlife photographer, just enjoying sharing what I happen to stumble across. I use a Canon EOS R6 Mark 2 and currently my only lens is the Canon RF100-400mm IS USM and I often use a 1.4x extender on that. Still learning!
Snow Bunting. Wisconsin. 2025. Photo by me.

The #Solitude in this photo is misleading, as this little bird was part of a very bold flock of buntings.

Great Horned Owl (named Fonzie). 2025. Wisconsin. Photo by me.

I think it's hard to take a photo of a GHO without it looking moody, which is today's #birdoftheday theme. This guy is at the Raptor Education Group (REGI) in Antigo, WI.

Black-capped Chickadee. 2026. Wisconsin. Photo by me.

Chickadees are so common, but I love watching them. They are often joined by other birds like Titmice and Nuthatches, as chickadees are exceptional at finding winter food. #birdfacts 🪶

First birding trip of 2026 is already in the books! The Common Goldeneye is a diving duck that nests in natural cavities or those made by woodpeckers in trees. They breed in the Arctic. #birdfacts 🪶

Northern Shrike. 2025. Wisconsin. Photo by me.

Also known as "butcher birds", shrikes will store food by... Are you ready?.. impaling their prey on thorns 😬. That's one way to get through a hard winter. #birdfacts 🪶

Morning doves. 2025. Wisconsin. Photo by me.

Mourning doves were one of the most abundant species of bird in the United States, rivaling the notoriously extinct passenger pigeon. It is still one of the most widespread in North America. #birdfacts 🪶

Like many blue colored birds, Blue Jays don't actually have blue pigment, instead, their feathers have structures that only reflect blue wavelengths of light. #birdfacts 🪶

Black-cappes Chickadee. Wisconsin. 2025. Photo by me.

The "chick-a-dee-dee" call has several purposes, one of which is an alarm call if danger is near by. The more "dees", the greater the danger. The most I've warranted so far is 7 🤣. #birdfacts 🪶
