When we bought our current house it had gas appliances. Never turned on the gas stove, got the IKEA induction hot plate and used it for more than 6 months until we got our induction stove. Just loaned the hot plate out to a friend (with pots and pans) while they switch to induction after a gas leak.
For folks who are thinking about induction cooking, I recommend starting with an induction hotplate, which are like $65 at Ikea or wherever. Most people are really happy with the cooking experience and often move half or more of their cooking to induction, even with just one "burner" available.

Last night all but two Republican Senators voted to kill off tax credits that have helped lower housing and energy costs and keep the lights on since 2005 by reducing energy waste. If the Big Ugly Blackout Bill ultimately passes we all face higher costs, more debt, and a less reliable electric grid.

Maybe we shouldn't end energy efficiency incentives and programs, increase energy costs, increase deficits, and increase the number of uninsured in the country, all at the same time in one bill. That seems like bad policy. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/c..., apnews.com/article/cbo-...

Texas is facing record heat and electricity demand for May. You know what keeps people safe and comfortable, especially in manufactured homes, and helps keep the lights and AC on? Energy efficiency: air sealing, insulation, heat pumps. You know who can do something about that? Senator Cornyn.
May 15, 2025 at 8:20 AM
Half of the manufactured homes being built this year are more affordable to buy and live in because of the 45L tax credit that the Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee voted to end yesterday. Ending it does nothing except raise prices on those least able to afford housing. Do better Senate.

4 years ago I left my job of 15 years to accelerate energy efficiency and better buildings, especially for households struggling to afford to keep the lights on. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement (25C) credit has helped millions of people like Carrie lower their utility bills, live more comfortably, and reduce strain on the electric grid. But these credits are now under threat in Congress.

I'm just tuning in to opening day, and apparently MacKenzie Gore has 1 hit and 12 strikeouts on 15 batters through 5 innings. Amazing. Too early to get excited about the Nats? Probably. But I'll take this for the moment.
