@mayorq.bsky.social has about 24 hours to keep delivering lower costs for Kansas City residents by vetoing an ordinance weakening building energy codes. This OpEd from a local home energy rating expert explains why he should do that. Hope you do, Mayor Lucas! www.kansascity.com/opinion/read...
Smarter building codes save money. Mayor Lucas, don’t take KC backward | Opinion
The City Council voted to cancel updated energy-saving rules. Quinton Lucas should stand against it to save homeowners and renters big money. | Opinion

Some Kansas City families are saving hundreds of dollars a year on their energy bills since 2023 thanks to updated building codes. The Council voted 7-6 last week to reverse that progress and raise future bills. @mayorq.bsky.social should veto. Might even save your life www.aceee.org/blog-post/20...

Thank you to the 147 House Democrats who voted against raising energy bills on American families this morning. To the 206 Republicans and 57 Democrats who voted for higher costs for families buying manufactured homes - why? Voters have clearly said they want lower bills, and this is an easy one.

“This gives the green light for manufacturers to pinch pennies on insulation and leave residents to pay the price month after month," said Jennifer Layke, Executive Director of ACEEE, about a bill just passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.
House Vote for Poorly-Insulated Manufactured Homes Would Raise Costs
The bill passed today would cancel energy efficiency standards and raise utility bills and total costs for residents

As soon as tomorrow Congress could vote on HR 5184, which would kill a rule that would save struggling American families hundreds of dollars. People are trying to afford to keep their lights on and one of the first bills of the year would make that harder. Despicable. www.aceee.org/fact-sheet/2...

When we bought our current house it had gas appliances. Never turned on the gas stove, got the IKEA induction hot plate and used it for more than 6 months until we got our induction stove. Just loaned the hot plate out to a friend (with pots and pans) while they switch to induction after a gas leak.
For folks who are thinking about induction cooking, I recommend starting with an induction hotplate, which are like $65 at Ikea or wherever. Most people are really happy with the cooking experience and often move half or more of their cooking to induction, even with just one "burner" available.

Last night all but two Republican Senators voted to kill off tax credits that have helped lower housing and energy costs and keep the lights on since 2005 by reducing energy waste. If the Big Ugly Blackout Bill ultimately passes we all face higher costs, more debt, and a less reliable electric grid.

Maybe we shouldn't end energy efficiency incentives and programs, increase energy costs, increase deficits, and increase the number of uninsured in the country, all at the same time in one bill. That seems like bad policy. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/c..., apnews.com/article/cbo-...

Texas is facing record heat and electricity demand for May. You know what keeps people safe and comfortable, especially in manufactured homes, and helps keep the lights and AC on? Energy efficiency: air sealing, insulation, heat pumps. You know who can do something about that? Senator Cornyn.

Half of the manufactured homes being built this year are more affordable to buy and live in because of the 45L tax credit that the Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee voted to end yesterday. Ending it does nothing except raise prices on those least able to afford housing. Do better Senate.
