Congress keeps saying they want to simplify the tax code. Here is what the last 2 GOP major tax laws have done:
2017 - 1040 was 2 pages
And now for 2025 . . .
1040 is 2 pages, plus Sch. 1-3 with 5 pages and Sch 1-A with 1 and 2/3 pages.
That isn’t how most define “simplifying”

Great line from a colleague:
“I am sure there are those that believe Congress is no longer a functioning branch of government.”
And he is right!

Things that don’t jive: IRS needs to hire 11,000 to maintain phone support for next tax season. IRS plans to cut 60% of IT staff. So cyber security and working computers for the 11,000 don’t matter. They can answer the phone questions needing only paper and pen. 🙄

If you’re doing home energy improvements this year, to get tax credits, the manufacturer must be qualified and the parts must have a product ID number.

#businessowners if you have a third party handling your #bookkeeping and/or #taxes, insist on quarter reports, depreciation schedules, tax returns, and annual records. I’m hearing about unscrupulous people refusing to share information. It’s illegal but a pain to go to court to get corrected.

Rep. Kustoff said he doesn’t want the enforcement part of the IRS to get more funding. So we pay the taxes while his rich friends avoid them? That doesn’t seem right to me.

There hasn’t been any tax legislation this year but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been changes and important regulations. If you inherited an IRA after 2019, make sure you know the new rules! RMDs are required for 2025 and penalties for failure to take RMDs are being enforced.
