I've seen many Vikunja Forks that are all very AI-smelly since Claude Code exploded a few months ago. Also more contributions which were AI-generated, but not as much low-quality as you might expect.
The many people who will be unhappy about their AI-instructed PR not merged will also learn rapidly that open source is very much “remixable” with AI support:

Fork the code, make the change: it’s now yours!

Open source might just explode with remixes honestly…

It's a little crazy how much my workflow has changed with Claude Code.

(I guess I should learn tmux?)

🦙 And now, the 5th rc of the 1.0 release!

272 commits have been made, many bug fixes and a few new features sneaked in as well. I think this time, this was a release without any known bugs at release.

Please test as much as you can and report all the bugs!

Great take by antirez (from redis) about coding in the ai age:

"It does not matter if AI companies will not be able to get their money back and the stock market will crash. All that is irrelevant, in the long run."

Opus 4.5 has just fixed a problem in Vikunja which Sonnet 4.5 could not solve. It went for 1h45min 🤯 all by itself executing a debug - fix - test - check loop the whole time.

My favorite quote from Chris in this episode:

“I believe in the power of programmers. I believe in the human potential of people that want to create things. And that’s fundamentally why I love software is that you can create anything that you can imagine.”

AI agents being able to run unit tests is SUCH a massive unlock.

If you're a dev who has utilized unit tests heavily: using a tool like Claude Code makes so much sense.

And if you don't yet use tests: with AI agents, don't see how you would not do it sooner or later...

To get today's RC 2 out of the door, I did 13 PRs - only today. Some were trivial fixes, some were more complicated.

For all of them, coding agents did most of the legwork. I mainly supervised and guided.
