Bleach (re-read)

I finished a re-read of Soul Society and Arrancar a couple of years ago and picked up where I left off with Fullbringer to the end of TYBW.

Bleach will always be near and dear to me for its characters and its strong sense of style. An aughts-defining manga.

Seven Samurai

I feel like at least for me this movie was hard to watch on a first viewing. I wasn’t sure why the movie was spending so long on some things, and that made for an unsatisfying watch, but it makes sense by the end. I think I’d like it more on a rewatch.

Spider-Man 3 (rewatch)

A movie I’ve warmed up on over the years, its a good movie that was kept from being a masterpiece because of studio meddling. Its extremely hammy sometimes but Harry and Flint Marko are excellent characters in this movie.

Peacemaker S2

This is a show where when I look back at it and think about each individual episode, all of them were good, the problem is that by the time its over it doesn’t feel like it was all tied together very well. Had this burden that S1 didn’t have, having to do all this setup. Still solid.

Demon Slayer - The Hinokami Chronicles 2

An improvement on the first game in about every way, while covering the middle arcs of the series and doing key moments justice with presentation on par with the anime.

Demon Slayer (manga)

“I know what eternity is. Eternity is human feeling. Only human feelings last forever and are undying.”

10/10. A masterpiece.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

One of the greatest superhero films ever made, maybe the best solo superhero film OAT. Extremely emotional and compelling. Peter‘s arc in this movie is so good, and Octavius is incredible. A film packed with memorable and iconic scenes from start to finish.

Masterpiece.

Spider-Man (2002)

Probably the most formative superhero film of my childhood. The Uncle Ben portion of the film is extremely good. Norman is very cartoony but Dafoe sells it with his performance.

Classic.

Creature Commandos

Solid animated show. There are a couple of episodes in the middle I really liked, one episode I didn’t like and the rest ranges from okay to interesting. It is very much an ‘appetizer’ as James Gunn put it.

Demon Slayer - The Hinokami Chronicles

Solid anime game covering the beginning of the series to the end of Mugen Train. They do the key moments of the series right with some beautiful in-game animation. The quieter moments are stiff but the sequel seems to have improved on this.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns

Already believed Demon Slayer to be one of the greatest shounen anime of all-time, and this movie still has the story one-upping itself in its emotional peaks yet again

Masterpiece

Wonder Woman 1984

This is a movie that exists. Very mid and ??? writing decisions.

Gal Gadot’s poor acting worked better in the first movie where Diana was a fish out of water, but she gives basically the same performance where she has acclimated and its bad.

Pedro Pascal was really good tho

Wonder Woman (rewatch)

This movie is alright. Important historically for female superheroes. Was interesting exploring the WW1 setting as well.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

Doesn’t feel as good or premium as the first one but its still solid. Definitely better than the Waititi Thor duology, to make a comparison.

I kinda just like how Aquaman has all of his family alive, nice change of pace from other superheroes.

Aquaman

Solid movie with great action, surprisingly good world building and saucy visuals. It is fun and probably would have been awesome to see in theaters. Kind of wild this is the highest grossing DC movie ever but it probably just came out at the right time.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League

I saw Josstice League like 7 years ago but barely remember anything about it

This movie has a unique quality of like watching a graphic novel. Its 4 hours long but its very compelling from start to finish. Cyborg is my favorite character in probably the whole trilogy

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition

First time seeing the UE cut. I think the most fascinating thing about this movie is how society holds what Superman *can’t* do against him, in how he falls short of being their god. Behind all that power there is still a human who fails and loves

Man of Steel (rewatch)

Maybe the most unique take on Superman in live action. I’m kind of bothered by how little Clark has to say, but he has an insane first day as Superman. The depiction of destruction in this movie is also captivating and harrowing.

The Dark Knight Rises (rewatch)

Yeah, this is my least favorite of the three. Its the most sauceless and it just feels like it lacks the stronger direction of the first two. Baffling writing choices like what they do with “Robin”, Talia hijacking the antagonist stick from Bane at the end…

The Dark Knight (rewatch)

This is just one of those movies that I think is perfect in its momentum. I’m incredibly engaged from scene to scene to scene. Ledger’s Joker has so many iconic moments but Eckhart’s Dent is lowkey the best character in the movie.

Batman Begins (rewatch)

Very easy to forget this was the best Batman movie ever made by far for a brief period of time before its sequel. Still feels sleek & modern despite being 20 years old

I think this movie is a great arc for Bruce, but its depictions of Ra’s & Scarecrow havent aged the best

Peacemaker S1

Very funny and entertaining show with a surprisingly lovable cast of characters. Looking forward to S2.
