My op-ed in tomorrow's

on revelations that the IRGC were behind a series of antisemitic attacks in Australia, including the firebombing of Melbourne's Adass Israel synagogue

When I was jailed in Iran, the interrogator showed me a list of Australian sites and began asking questions
Typed on the piece of paper were the addresses of synagogues and Jewish organisations in Melbourne. He wanted to know if I’d visited any of them, and if so, what was inside.

1/ For the first time since my academic career was effectively destroyed by my wrongful arrest in Iran in 2018, I have published a peer-reviewed journal article. Still not sure whether academia is where I'm meant to be, but I'm pleased to have finally got a tentative first step back on the ladder.

My piece for The Age / SMH on the targeting of Evin prison, the fate of the prisoners inside and why Evin as a symbol cannot be erased by bombs alone.
www.theage.com.au/world/middle...
Yesterday, bombs fell on the prison where I was jailed. It may be a metaphor for the Iranian people’s fate
The destruction of the gates of Evin prison, where I was incarcerated, risks becoming a metaphor for the fate of the Iranian people more broadly, once the missiles stop falling.

My op-ed for @crikey.com.au There is great danger that now the bombs will stop falling, the regime will turn its attention to recriminations and rounding up innocent civilians to charge with bogus security crimes in order to demonstrate that its domestic coercive power has not weakened.

"As always, the Iranian people will likely pay the greatest price for this war. It remains to be seen whether their self-appointed champions in Tel Aviv and Washington will still be there when it matters,"

What happens to Iran when the bombs stop falling?
Civilians inside Iran express grave fears that its government will severely punish them when no longer preoccupied by external enemies.

My op-ed in The Age and Sydney Morning Herald about why regime change can only be delivered by the Iranian people themselves
www.theage.com.au/world/middle...
Iranians support Israel assassinating their oppressors – at least for now
Regime change, if that is indeed Israel’s goal, cannot be imposed from outside. It must come from within, and Israel risks alienating the very constituency it needs to get the job done.

My op-ed in today's Financial Review on why it may be a better strategic option to allow Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to remain in place
afr.com/world/middle...
Why Iran’s supreme leader hasn’t been assassinated (yet)
Regardless of Trump’s involvement or otherwise, it appears that the Israeli decision to hold off on targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader was ultimately a wise one, writes Kylie Moore-Gilbert.

1. While this @LowyInstitute piece makes a number of good points, I disagree with its overall pessimism about the prospects for a prisoner swap with Russia.

The Australian fighter's 13-year sentence in occupied Ukraine eliminates prisoner exchange hopes and leaves Canberra few options under law.
