Around the world, politicians are fixated on factories. But this obsession with factories is built on myths—and will be self-defeating

This is great news!
€4.4 billion from the Global Gateway package will go to projects supporting a clean and just energy transition in South Africa.

It's a significant first pledge in the context of the Scaling up Renewables in Africa campaign.

I hope it will inspire many others to contribute!

As the Trump administration moves to freeze foreign aid, halting vital humanitarian health programmes and medical research trials worldwide – I argue that the US stand to lose far more from this move than its 1% government investment in foreign aid. www.spotlightnsp.co.za/2025/02/24/i...

This article is so misleading and inaccurate. “Cheap solar” and “expensive Eskom power” is not the reason SA consumers aren’t paying their bills or that Eskom and municipal distributors can’t recover the costs of power supplied… @economist.com.

Energy efficient appliances can save consumers a lot of money. The upfront cost of an inefficient lamp or fridge might be « low » . But consumers don’t sit in front of spreadsheets estimating lifecycle costs so they don’t realise the amount of power they will save by buying « the expensive one ».

Déjà vu. In 2008, Zuma disbanded the Scorpions - a body investigating him for corruption. It was replaced by the Hawks which, as a judgement later read were “insufficiently insulated from political influence in its structure and functioning…because…activities must be coordinated by the Cabinet.”

Five million South Africans and 20 million people in total losing access to life saving ARVs as a result of the Trump PEPFAR stop work order. He’s a cruel and vindictive narcissist.. though it’s not clear who is trying to punish by denying most vulnerable HIV + people access to live saving drugs.
Thanks to AmfAR for analyzing the effects of Donald J. Trump's Stop Work Orders for PEPFAR Programs.

Yes he will kill people - blood on their hands.
"It will kill people." The Trump administration’s sudden halt on all U.S. foreign aid is causing chaos inside groups ranging from health providers to landmine removers — interrupting lifesaving programs as officials struggle to understand the scope of the directive. www.politico.com/news/2025/01...

Fired for “excessive focus” on diversity and inclusive hiring. Or simply because she is a women? It’s difficult to understand why ~57% of white women and ~45% of women in the U.S. voted for Trump. A man who believes the playing field is level & that if women are underrepresented they are inferior.
