New blog post--review of a new book out this week: Lorissa Rinehart's biography of Jeannette Rankin. Someone I've always been curious about, and the book is a pleasure to read--there's lots about Progressivism, woman suffrage, and 20th-century American politics.

My second book is getting closer to the finish line! If you liked book 1, you love book 2 as it tells the second part of the story of MWP and college student activism in the 1920s and the 1930s for civic engagement and women’s rights! library.duke.edu/research/stu...

Here are suffragette waitresses with Women's Social & Political Union (WSPU) tea sets at the Women's Exhibition held in London, May 1909.

We've loaned our WSPU tea set to Tate Britain. It looks glorious in their gallery — go visit if you can! 🫖 🤩

Okay, this is obviously lovely in lots of ways. However, the homogenisation of the British suffrage movement to only include the WSPU and their colours does an unacceptable disservice to the diverse and hugely significant contribution the many suffrage organisations who fought for (cont.)

In its two hours and 30 minutes, ‘Suffs’ delivers more than a simple retelling of the American suffrage movement. The musical, which runs through Nov. 9 at the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, offers something much deeper and more valuable. Our review:

America’s suffragist story is the struggle of women committed to justice, equal rights and their role in American politics. (Have things changed enough?) The “Suffs” national tour reminds us battles continue. Its strength is as a musical vaccination to continue marching.
