Meet Dexter. Urinary blocked three times. None of which his family could pay for. Their story is like so many. Vetmed is too $$ so only euthanasia is available. It’s time to require options. It’s time to get corp out of caregiving.

Snoop, found by a neighbor with her foot in a steel leg hold trap. We have worked for 3 months to try to save her leg. Her adopter has $0. But I love her. She is a daily, tangible reminder of who we are at our clinic. There are cases I take bc my heart needs them as much as they need me. Waggle.org

Zoey. Today and two weeks ago when she arrived with her pyometra. nothing brings me more joy and peace than taking the cases others make so expensive they feel disposable. This is medicine. This is purposeful intention & pride. Jump into the cases that need you and not the ones that are profitable

This is my WIN for the day. I asked a pet parent to microchip their 7 year old inside only cat to microchip and he said YES! (I said I would beg and he told me I didn’t have to).. $25 at my clinic. I tell clients that “I hope you never need it, but JIC you do it will be there.”

Snoop, an outside cat. Like so many she isn’t given a lot. Her family was trying to protect the cats by placing steel leg traps for the foxes. They got her instead. It will be weeks before we know if we can save her leg. My vet clinic never denies care. this is the face of why we need to do better

When your patient is the doppelgänger for your long gone beloved friend. Occasionally my departed pets find me again in the faces of my patients. I’m so grateful to still see them and I always remind them how much they are loved and how grateful I am for the life we had together.

This client drove three hours to see me because no one else would look for a polyp. This cat struggled to breathe for 4 years.

The answer to this question is seated in the ethos of who you are. It comes down to this; who are you here in veterinary medicine.

This morning I heard the first Spring songbird out my bedroom window. It is a sure sign that even the harshest of Winters brings hope and new life. Cheers to 4 years of harboring hope.

When I was accepted into veterinary school I framed the acceptance letter and hung it by my bed so I could see it every night as I went to sleep and every morning I awoke. It remained there for the four years of vet school. This might take its place for the next four years.
